Niantic reveal Morpeko and form changes are coming to Pokémon GO
As a hardcore gamer with over two decades of Pokémon experience under my belt, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming season in Pokémon GO! Morpeko, that adorable electric rodent with a penchant for hunger-induced transformations, is finally joining our digital menagerie. The anticipation has been building ever since its initial discovery within the confines of the Galar region, and now it’s officially coming to life in the game!
Morpeko is coming to Pokémon GO, alongside an exciting new mechanic.
Niantic has announced that the upcoming season of Pokémon GO will introduce Morpeko, hinting at the arrival of something that’s been feeling quite peckish…
In the upcoming version of the game, Morpeko – a unique Pokemon with a full-stomach form and a grumbly form – is set to debut, along with a brand-new form change mechanism. This innovative feature will allow certain Pokemon to switch forms during battle by using specific moves. With various unannounced forms of Pokemon in the pipeline, this mechanic could potentially introduce many new additions to the game soon.
Morpeko is coming to Pokémon GO
Morpeko made its initial appearance in Pokemon GO, hinting at an emphasis on the Galar region for the upcoming months. Moreover, it’s anticipated that Morpeko will make its official debut in the next season. Niantic also hinted at the arrival of Dynamax and Gigantamax within the game yesterday.
It appears that Galar might have been intentionally bypassed so that Niantic could incorporate all the diverse features necessary to fully exploit the region’s potential.

Morpeko exhibits two distinct forms: its regular form is known as “Full Belly Mode,” where it takes on an Electric-type Pokémon character. Conversely, when it’s feeling particularly hungry, it transforms into a Dark-type Pokémon, which we can all relate to, and this is called “Hangry Mode.”
Form changes also coming to Pokémon GO next season
It’s incredibly thrilling to see Niantic using Morpeko as a hint for form changes in Pokémon GO. Apart from Morpeko, which has two distinct forms, there are other Pokémon with different forms within the game that we haven’t been able to access yet. For quite some time, trainers have been eagerly discussing how these Pokémon might make their way into the game.

Initially, there was speculation that these new creatures would simply be distinct variations of existing Pokémon. However, with the introduction of the form change feature, it appears that they will each have unique characteristics instead.
One Redditor said:
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but speculate that when Niantic hinted at Morpeko without revealing any additional details, they likely weren’t just planning a unique mechanic for a single Pokémon. This could potentially mean that crowd favorites like Mimikyu (a spooky Halloween staple) and Zen Form Darmanitan might make their way into the game during the upcoming season. After all, variety is the spice of life in the Pokémon world!
Stay tuned for more details on the next Pokémon GO season.
