Good Morning Britain’s Richard Madeley leaves Jennie McAlpine grinding her teeth as he ‘ages her four years’ in awkward Coronation Street blunder – with Kate Garraway forced to step in
As a long-time viewer of Coronation Street, I must say that Jennie McAlpine’s character Fiz has been through quite the rollercoaster ride these past few years! From her tumultuous relationship with Tyrone to her brief stint as a potential midwife, Fiz’s life on the cobbles is never dull.
During an interview with Jennie McAlpine, Richard Madeley unintentionally added four years to her age, necessitating the intervention of Kate Garraway to correct the error.
On this past Monday, Jennie, age 40, graced the screen as a guest during an episode of Good Morning Britain. She was there to talk about her long-standing character, Fizz Dobbs, on the soap opera set in the cobbles for the past two and a half decades.
Nevertheless, Richard unintentionally made the actress appear older by four years while talking about her tenure on the program.
In that captivating conversation, I couldn’t help but be swept away when Richard mentioned, “With me being on Corrie for over two decades, has it ever struck you as remarkable that this duration surpasses the tenure of both Hilda Ogden and Elsie Tanner?” It just feels like yesterday when I first stepped into the set!
After that, the actress showed signs of annoyance by rolling her eyes and falling quiet. It wasn’t until Kate intervened that she corrected Richard by saying, “It has been 23 years.”
Richard quickly expressed his apology to Jennie by asking, “Is it like I’ve wronged you for 23 years?” in a more conversational manner.
To which Jennie swiped back with: ’23 yeah, don’t age me that much Richard.’
It comes after Jennie admitted she hasn’t ruled out having another child as she ‘loves babies’.
Last year in April, the actress gave birth to a daughter named Doris, alongside her husband Chris Farr. They decided to keep the news private for about five months, savoring the bliss of their newborn phase undisturbed.
Jennifer, who’s been portraying Fiz Dobbs on the series since 2002, is a doting mother to Albert, aged nine, and Hilda, who’s five years old as well.
“While others cherish diamonds, I find babies more endearing. My home and work space are often in a whirlwind, with my mirror at work adorned with numerous Post-It notes listing tasks to be done. Despite this, I can’t guarantee we’ll take a break right now,” she shared with The Mirror.

As a woman who has spent decades balancing a fulfilling career and motherhood, I can confidently say that both work and motherhood have been integral parts of my life. If you were to ask me at age 80 if I would turn down more opportunities for either, I’d find it hard to say yes. The words simply wouldn’t come easily off my tongue.
If not an actress, Jennie would have cherished being a midwife, and she still harbors aspirations to feature in a program similar to Emma Willis’s: “Delivering Babies.”
Earlier, on Coronation Street, Tyrone’s former lover Alina Pop (portrayed by Ruxandra Porojnicu) ran into Fiz in the parking lot of the supermarket Freshco.
Tyrone learning about his son with Alina complicates matters in his relationship with Fiz.
At first, Alina found herself deeply involved in a narrative concerning contemporary slavery. This storyline depicted her journey to the United Kingdom, which was facilitated by a human trafficking network.
When she fell pregnant, Tyrone told her he was staying by Fiz.
A devastated Alina then told the mechanic she was returning to Romania to raise their child alone.
She’s now back in Weatherfield because she’s a witness in a trial against traffickers.
In a recent chat, I shared that I’ve reached my limit – I needed a breather for a while to mend, and I certainly did some healing during these past two years. However, I feel it’s essential for me to step back even further from the bustling city life to fully recover and rejuvenate.
‘But we’ll see where this takes her.’
In the year 2001, Tyrone and Fiz shared their initial on-screen kiss, and twenty years down the line, they were still together as a couple.
However, they split up after he had an affair with Alina.
After the two characters kissed, Tyrone dumped Fiz and declared his love for Alina.
He finally married Fiz on Christmas Day in 2022.
