‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Has a Deleted Scene That Perfectly Sets Up Avengers: Doomsday

A deleted scene from Deadpool & Wolverine hints at the return of Channing Tatum as Gambit in the 2026 Avengers: Doomsday film. Tatum first appeared as the mutant in the latest Deadpool movie, after previously being slated to star in a solo Gambit film that was ultimately scrapped.

A recently revealed deleted scene from Deadpool & Wolverine proves that Gambit survived the battle in the Void. The scene shows him walking through the aftermath of the fight – amidst debris and fallen characters – before glancing up and offering a slight smile.

Ryan Reynolds, who stars in and helped write Deadpool & Wolverine, shared on Instagram after the movie came out that the scene fans thought was cut wasn’t actually deleted. He explained it was subtly included, appearing on a monitor in the background at the TVA.

Although Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman (who famously played Wolverine) haven’t been officially announced for Avengers: Doomsday, rumors suggest Reynolds might make an appearance. The movie has a large cast, so it’s still possible. Channing Tatum, however, is definitely confirmed to be in the film when it comes out on December 18th.

How Does Gambit’s Survival Set up Avengers: Doomsday?

Although the movie didn’t definitively say what happened to Gambit, Laura Kinney (X-23), played by Dafne Keen, was shown to be alive at the end, suggesting Gambit might have survived as well. The initial announcement about Channing Tatum returning as Gambit in Avengers: Doomsday wasn’t even needed to confirm this, because a deleted scene proving he was alive had already been released.

As a fan, I’ve noticed something really interesting about the latest Marvel movies. Both Deadpool & Wolverine – with its use of the Void from Loki – and what we’re seeing with Avengers: Doomsday seem to be playing pretty fast and loose with time. Doomsday especially looks like it’s going to jump around through different timelines and universes. They’re even bringing in versions of characters like the Fantastic Four from the 1960s, which makes sense since that’s when they existed in their own world. It’s a cool way to mix things up and isn’t getting too hung up on a strict timeline.

Even though Gambit appeared in a scene after the movie, it didn’t completely guarantee he would survive the ending of the third Deadpool film.

Now that it seems Gambit has survived and is still trapped in The Void, fans are beginning to understand how his story might connect to the overall plot of Avengers: Doomsday. This also suggests he hasn’t returned to his home universe, if that universe still exists.

Both Loki and Deadpool & Wolverine have hinted at the existence of the Void, suggesting it’s a huge and largely unexplored place. This leaves room for anything to be hidden within it—possibly even Gambit. Combined with rumors that the Void will appear in Doomsday, it’s likely the heroes of that movie will either encounter it or actively search for it as they face off against Robert Downey Jr.’s Dr. Doom.

Most of the X-Men appear to come from their own universe, unlike Gambit, who was originally sent to The Void. This means there’s a possibility Gambit could join the rest of the X-Men after the events of Deadpool & Wolverine. He might have escaped The Void and ended up at Xavier’s Mansion, which is featured in the movie, even though it’s shown in ruins.
