2024 Logie Awards: Allison Langdon breaks down as she delivers heartfelt speech following triumphant win

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for personal journeys and resilience, I must say Allison Langdon’s story is truly inspiring. Her emotional acceptance speech at the 2024 Logie Awards underscores her dedication and passion for journalism, a legacy that dates back to her father-in-law, Michael Willesee.

Allison Langdon was reduced to tears during the 2024 Logie Awards on Sunday.

In a recent awards ceremony, the 45-year-old experienced television host was victorious in the category of Best News or Public Affairs Presenter, surpassing contenders such as David Speers and Sarah Ferguson from ABC, Liz Hayes and Peter Overton from Channel Nine, and Michael Usher from Seven.

The host of A Current Affair found herself in a deeply moving situation when she stepped onto the stage to accept her award, feeling overpowered by the moment.

She started by saying, “After listening to all the contenders, it’s not at all obvious that mine would be the one announced.”

She expressed that every action taken is done wholeheartedly and sincerely. If a tale lacks genuine emotion and passion, she simply won’t be involved in it.

I glance at the people who have occupied this seat prior to me, tracing it all the way back to my father-in-law [Michael Willesee], the one who first began this program.

‘It would be wonderful if he could have seen the family connection and where that played out.

Following Tracy Grimshaw’s dramatic exit in 2022, Langdon took over the role and openly expressed her affection for the person she succeeded.

In my dedication, I follow the path of affection towards her – the one who has consistently asserted that those who dislike our performance simply haven’t grasped its essence yet.

‘To Mike Munro, Ray Martin, and everyone who has been in this roll, thank you.’

Previously this year, Langdon hinted at potential changes when she spoke about her plans for leaving her position.

In conversation with Bradley J Dryburgh during his “A Lot To Talk About” podcast, Ally hinted at the possibility of returning to university and embarking on an entirely different career trajectory following her ACA journey.

When inquired about her future aspirations, she revealed her intention to embark on a new journey, possibly retiring towards the sunset and pursuing something completely distinct.

‘Go back to uni, start something entirely different, entirely new,’ she excitedly added.

Prior to taking over as host for A Current Affair (ACA), Ally used to be a frequent guest on The Today Show. However, she experienced a surprising hydrofoiling mishap during filming of a water sports segment in February 2021.

Following the accident, Ally was rescued from the water by her life jacket, with two men jumping in to assist her. The men were observed as they rushed to help her.

Instead of going straight home after the incident, she was transported to a medical facility for care. Later, she returned to Sydney for surgery on her knee.

Three years on from the accident, Ally appears to still suffer from the injury.

Langdon is married to Michael Willesee Jr., who was previously hosted on ACA by his father, Mike Willesee. Together, they have one son and one daughter.
