2024 Logie Awards: Rebecca Gibney reflects on being Hugh Jackman’s first onscreen kiss as she’s inducted into hall of fame with tear-jerking Logies speech

2024 saw me, a devoted admirer, witnessing a momentous occasion as I watched Rebecca Gibney join an exclusive club – the fourth woman ever to be inducted into the TV Week Hall of Fame! This prestigious honor was bestowed upon her during the glittering Logie Awards held at The Star in Sydney on a memorable Sunday night.
In a breathtaking montage showcasing her illustrious, decades-long TV journey, that Kiwi beauty, aged 59, confessed to me, an ardent fan, that I had the honor of being the first to share a screen kiss with none other than the dashing Hugh Jackman!
As a lifestyle enthusiast looking back on my career, I can’t help but reminisce about my shared on-screen romance with a dashing actor, born in 1965. Our paths crossed when we both starred in the captivating show, Halifax FP, which first graced our screens in 1994 – a decade after I made my debut on Australian television with Zoo Family in 1985. On set, we found ourselves sharing more than just lines, as fate had us lock lips during the course of our acting together.
During an interview, Rebecca described the situation as uncomfortable, strange, and not quite right when it came to kissing. She added that he seemed uneasy about it, explaining, “It just felt a bit odd.” Despite this, she mentioned that things somehow managed to move forward.

However, the television personality started to emotionally break down as she expressed gratitude towards her spouse Richard Bell and their 20-year-old son Zachary.

I deeply appreciate your thoughtful approach towards choosing my career paths, always encouraging me to pursue opportunities that bring me happiness and joy. Your selfless act of sacrificing your own work for mine has not gone unnoticed, and it significantly impacts my life in a positive way. The lessons learned from our experiences together have been invaluable, shaping the person I am today.
Over the past twenty-five years, you’ve been my solid support and my source of love, and I can’t thank you enough for that.
‘To my wonderful son Zac, who consistently fills me with the most delightful joy. I couldn’t be more proud of you! Your kindness, gentleness, and extraordinary talent never cease to amaze me. Thank you for showing me how to be a great mother. My love for you goes far beyond what words can express.’
In conclusion, Rebecca expressed great pride at being among just four women in the Hall of Fame, acknowledging that there are numerous others who will follow in her footsteps.

In my art, I often reflect on experiences from my childhood and observations during my formative years.
As I grew up and acquired acting skills, I began to attend performances with a new mindset: “Perhaps if I immerse myself in the moment and avoid dwelling on past experiences, particularly those from when I was 15, it could lead to a more successful outcome.”
Rebecca has the distinction of being one of only four women ever inducted into the TV Week Hall of Fame, and she is widely recognized for her outstanding performances in shows such as Halifax FP, Packed to the Rafters, The Flying Doctors, Stingers, and The Dressmaker.
