The latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy delighted fans with a classic dream sequence focusing on Richard Webber’s cancer journey, and a rare glimpse of Meredith Grey and Nick Marsh’s life at home in Boston. The episode introduced new family members into the show, which is surprising considering we still haven’t learned who Lucas Adams’ mother is.
Richard Webber Reveals Guilt Over His Father’s Death From Cancer
Richard’s battle with prostate cancer has been deeply moving, particularly because it reflects the real-life health struggles of actor James Pickens Jr. The episode “Fortunate Son” was especially impactful when his character, Richard, was under anesthesia and visited by his father, Charles (played by Dorian Harewood).
The operating room unexpectedly became a space for a father and son to reconnect, and it was incredibly moving to learn about Richard’s deep regret over his father’s death. He’d always felt he should have noticed the signs of his father Charles’s cancer sooner. Adding to that pain, he discovered he’d caught his own cancer early, creating a complex mix of relief and guilt.
This is serious news, but crucial to share. Even while unconscious, Richard understood he needed to tell his pregnant daughter, Maggie – who is expecting a son – about the family history of prostate cancer.
It’s wonderful that James Pickens Jr. is sharing his personal experience to encourage people to get early screenings and potentially save lives.
Nick Marsh Talks Babies And Past Relationship With Meredith After His Sister’s Surprise
Nick Marsh discovered his sister, Erica, has a history of addiction and years ago asked him to raise her daughter, Charlotte, when Charlotte was ten. In a recent episode, Erica unexpectedly showed up at Nick and Meredith’s home with another child!
Nick felt like history was repeating itself when Erica suddenly drove away, leaving her six-week-old baby behind. It was devastating, and he confessed to Meredith that he’d intended to propose to Erica before everything fell apart with Charlotte, who left because she wasn’t prepared to raise a ten-year-old. He worried Meredith might react the same way.
Nick and Meredith have decided they don’t want any more children, but they’re committed to each other. Meredith made it clear she would have stayed with Nick if Erica hadn’t come back into the picture. Now that Erica has returned, and the surgeons are welcoming her into their lives, it makes you wonder if she’ll become a regular part of the group.
Paging Lucas’ Mom! You’re Needed At Grey Sloan Memorial
Lucas Adams (played by Niko Terho) hasn’t been a major focus on Grey’s Anatomy recently, even though he was involved in the storyline with Jules Millin and her patient. Still, fans are still wondering which of Derek Shepherd’s sisters is actually Lucas’s mother.
Ever since the surprising reveal in the season 19 premiere – that Lucas is related to Derek Shepherd – fans have been wondering about his family history. Derek had four sisters, and while we know Amelia, three others have been seen on the show before.
It’s getting ridiculous that the show keeps adding new family members without ever explaining who Skywalker’s mother is – is it Nancy, Liz, or Kathleen? It makes you wonder if we’ll ever get an answer.
Next week’s episode of the show, titled “Strip That Down,” will feature the return of Amelia, who has been on sabbatical. Her arrival coincides with a visit from her former sister-in-law, Addison Montgomery (played by Kate Walsh). You can watch a preview of the episode below.
