In their tournament performances, NaVi’s “inferno” has often served as a potential game-changer, much like Chekhov’s gun in literature – always present but its use uncertain. Opponents are aware of its existence, but when and how NaVi will deploy it is unpredictable. In this particular instance, MOUZ anticipated the situation and opted to counter it with a strategic pick. They may have thought, like many experts, that it was a formidable weapon that could be neutralized. However, the impact of NaVi’s CT-side on MOUZ came as a surprise.

Inferno – MOUZ’s punish pick goes awry – 16:14

Immediately, NaVi claimed victory in the pistol round, with jL playing exceptionally well on defense. Following that, MOUZ won one round before NaVi took control. As the rounds progressed, the defense at B was repeatedly challenged, and Aleksib held strong. Eventually, MOUZ found a way to breach the site, largely due to torzsi’s impressive opening play, but this only resulted in them gaining three rounds during the first half.

After play resumed, team b1t aggressively pushed forward, scoring three headshots to conclude the round before MOUZ could respond effectively. Two impressive kills from torzsi using his five-seven weapon prevented NaVi from securing a B site hold and forced b1t to defend in the next round. Now, it was B1ad3’s team who had to execute a force buy while MOUZ took a defensive stance.

Nearly snatching a turnaround, NaVi came close to reclaiming a round that seemed lost, but xertioN’s effective plant denial kept MOUZ in command during the first half. Much like Aleksi-jL held off NaVi, xertioN led MOUZ’s defense on map B, establishing a stronghold. This marked the start of a 5-round winning streak for the young team. A triple kill by b1t ultimately broke the code, pushing NaVi to the brink of victory, but an amazing performance from siuhy, securing a clutch win, shifted the momentum towards Overtime.

Initially, Aleksib assumed leadership for the T-side, not just strategizing a B-push but leading the charge. Meanwhile, Brollan and torzsi collaborated on the B site, managing to restore parity as both teams maintained a close fight throughout the game.

For the initial time in this map, MOUZ took the lead on the scoreboard. However, NaVi regained their CT position. Quickly, they regrouped and it was the Aleksib-jL pair again that secured the match point. The entire NaVi team erupted as they managed to outplay MOUZ 16-14 in pick 1, kicking off the IEM Cologne 2024 Semi-Finals.

Mirage – MOUZ’s CT reply

Throughout the year, both teams have taken turns winning the Mirage title. Initially, MOUZ demonstrated a strong defense, securing four rounds consecutively. However, jL helped Navi squeak by with a narrow win in one round. In the following round, MOUZ crushed Navi decisively. Every opening skirmish seemed to favor MOUZ.

In this match, I was the sole beacon of hope for NaVi, stepping up when it mattered most to secure a round win with style. However, MOUZ had built a significant lead, amassing as many as seven rounds and looking poised to take control of the first half. But then, a double kill from b1t and an incredible clutch performance revitalized NaVi, leaving us within striking distance at 4-8 heading into the second half.

As a gamer, I can tell you that NAVI and b1t, along with their pistols, were aiming to make an unforgettable combo in this match. However, the Ukrainian headhunter grabbed three kills in Palace, which significantly slowed down MOUZ’s pace. In this game, it was all about the CT sides, and NAVI managed to bring the game to a 14-13 scoreline in their favor.

In this matchup, XertioN played incredibly well on the attack rounds, helping MOUZ extend their series by two more rounds. However, fortune seemed to favor NaVi when b1t claimed two kills on the short map, setting the stage for a potential collapse of MOUZ. But instead, they displayed remarkable resilience, responding immediately with their 11th round victory.

MOUZ’s strategic play and determination collided with Navi’s aggressive firepower. jL claimed yet another remarkable round, setting up a tie for Navi at 11-11. In the ensuing round, NaVi found themselves in a challenging 2v3 situation due to iM’s mid-infiltration. With only four frags under his belt, Aleksib was thrust into a crucial clutch scenario. However, the team’s leader made it count, securing the match point in a dramatic 1v2 standoff. Jimpphat came close to clinching the round, but once again it was Aleksib who sealed Navi’s victory and sent MOUZ out of Cologne, thereby ensuring Navi’s place in another Grand Finals in 2024.

NaVi vs Vitality in the Grand Finals of IEM Cologne 2024

Following their stunning victory against MOUZ, Navi is set to face off against Vitality in the championship match of IEM Cologne 2024.

The two teams boast a remarkable track record of matches, largely due to the formidable duo of s1mple and ZywOo from 2019 to 2023. Typically, Vitality has the edge in offensive firepower, while NaVi excel in strategic finesse. However, the question remains: which team will claim the most prestigious Counter-Strike trophy at the Cathedral tomorrow?
