Be warned: this article contains significant spoilers for the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2! The new season of Daredevil: Born Again starts with a bang, revealing key plot points and setting up mysteries for the rest of the season. Following the first season where Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk reunited, this season promises to escalate their conflict to even greater levels.
As season 1 concluded, Matt Murdock suited up as Daredevil, ready to confront the Mayor and, ultimately, the Kingpin. But taking down the Kingpin won’t be simple, as he’s now protected by a powerful and aggressive new security force called the Anti-Vigilante Task Force, or AVTF.
The second season of Daredevil: Born Again starts with Matt Murdock infiltrating a ship full of illegal weapons. The crew then tries to sink the ship with both the weapons and Daredevil on board. But the ending of the first episode raises some intriguing questions about the season’s overall story and what viewers can expect next.
Why Is Matt Murdock On The Run In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2?
A truly surprising scene in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again happens when Matt Murdock, despite being blind, bravely steps in front of his enemy, Wilson Fisk, and takes a bullet meant for him. The shooter was the dangerous assassin Benjamin Poindexter, also known as Bullseye.
It might seem strange why Matt Murdock is a fugitive. Although the public doesn’t know he’s a superhero, Wilson Fisk is aware of his nighttime activities. Because Fisk controls the AVTF and uses them to enforce his will, Matt is in danger regardless of whether his secret is revealed.
Additionally, Karen Page has a history of helping vigilantes such as Daredevil and the Punisher. Given that she and Matt Murdock are developing a romantic relationship, it’s logical they would both want to avoid detection by the AVTF and keep their connection secret.
Who Is Behind The Mayor Kingpin Mask?
Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again seems to be introducing a new form of public communication: broadcasts being shared throughout New York City. These videos, much like the BB Report from season 1, offer a look into the opinions of New Yorkers. However, this new broadcast presents a very different view of the city than what was shown in the original BB Report videos.
For years, the BB Report was known as a trustworthy source of information in New York, thanks to BB Ulrich’s investigations into the city’s problems. However, the show has lost its impact recently, and a new, more aggressive series has emerged, directly accusing Mayor Fisk of corruption.
The first episode doesn’t reveal who created the damaging video clips, but the list of potential suspects is small. It likely involves individuals like BB Urich, Karen Page, and others who oppose Fisk and are determined to reveal his criminal activity.
When Will Jessica Jones Show Up In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2?
The trailers and promotional materials for Daredevil: Born Again season 2 have highlighted the return of Jessica Jones, played by Krysten Ritter. She’s joining the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, reprising her role from the popular Netflix series, where she was known as a strong, independent, and ultimately good-hearted hero.
The marketing heavily implies a connection, but the first episode doesn’t hint at Jessica Jones playing a major role anytime soon. She could appear as early as the next episode and team up with the other heroes, or she might not show up until later in the second season.
We don’t know for sure yet, but her frequent appearances in the trailers hint that her storyline will take more than just a couple of episodes to develop. Plus, her introduction might also signal the arrival of other heroes from the team called The Defenders into the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon.
Who Saved Daredevil From The AVTF At The End Of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Episode 1?
At the end of the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, Daredevil briefly fights three agents from the AVTF who were searching Cherry’s apartment. But, because of Cherry’s age and the brutal attack he’d already suffered at the hands of Fisk’s men, Matt becomes focused on Cherry’s failing health during the fight, noticing his heart is struggling.
The agents gained the advantage and discovered Daredevil’s true identity when one of them realized he was actually Matt Murdock, the lawyer who had disappeared. This reveal would have been a huge surprise to begin the new season, but luckily for Matt, a mysterious helper intervened, taking out the agents quickly and efficiently without even being seen.
I was completely on the edge of my seat! After the brutal fight, seeing that knife just appear and land right in front of Murdock was chilling. And then to see those words, “you’re welcome,” etched on the blade with Bullseye’s logo… seriously, it sent shivers down my spine. It was such a classic Bullseye move – a taunt delivered with deadly precision. A perfect visual cue that he was behind it all.
Benjamin Poindexter and Matt Murdock share a complicated past filled with conflict and rivalry. However, Poindexter appears to be changing, and is now working with Matt to defeat Fisk and dismantle his organization.
This character is sure to be important throughout the new season, but it’s hard to tell what his motivations are. It looks like Daredevil and Bullseye might be teaming up in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, putting their past conflicts aside.
