As a seasoned Pokemon Trainer with over two decades of battling under my belt, let me tell you, this latest announcement from Niantic has sent shockwaves through the Pokemon GO community! The new move updates they’ve rolled out for PvP are nothing short of revolutionary.
Next season will see a huge shift in the GO Battle League meta.
At the start of the Pokémon GO World Championship held in Hawaii, the upcoming season’s modifications for battling in Pokémon GO have been unveiled. Prior to disclosing the alterations, commentator Caleb Peng stated that these changes will significantly transform Player versus Player (PvP) combat.
I’m thrilled to share that the exciting updates we’ve been working on will be unveiled with the upcoming season of Pokémon GO, set to premiere on September 3!

Updates to the Combat System:
- The switch timer in the GO Battle League will be changed from 60 to 50 seconds. Niantic say this change is under review for the upcoming season.
Attack Changes:
- Rock Slide: 75 power reduced to 65 power
- Wing Attack: Energy generation decreased
- Counter: Energy generation decreased
- Dig: 80 power reduced to 70 power
- Parabolic Charge: 65 power increased to 70, Energy cost decreased, chance to increase the users Defense by one stage
- Body Slam: Trainer Battles 60 power reduced to 50 power
- Swift: Energy cost decreased
- Mud Shot: 3 power increased to 4 power, Energy generation decreased
- Future Sight: 120 power reduced to 110 power
- Fire Spin: 10 power increased to 11 power
- Steel Wing: Energy generation decreased
- Metal Claw: Energy generation increased
- Trailblaze: Energy cost decreased
- Zap Cannon: Chance to lower the opposing Pokémon’s attack is decreased
- Smack Down: 12 power reduced to 11 power
- Razor Leaf: 10 power reduced to 9 power
- Astonish: 9 power increased to 12 power
- Fairy Wind: 3 power increased to 4 power
- Karate Chop: Energy generation increased
- Mud-Slap: 11 power increased to 12 power, Energy generation increased
- Poison Sting: 3 power increased to 4 power
- Psywave: Energy generation increased
- Rollout: 5 power increased to 8 power
- Sucker Punch: 5 power increased to 8 power
- Sky Attack: 75 power increased to 85 power, Energy cost increased
- Surf: 65 power increased to 75 power, Energy cost increased
- Bone Club: 40 power increased to 55 power
- Brutal Swing: 65 power reduced to 55 power, Energy cost decreased
