OG stomped out of the PGL Wallachia S2 Closed Qualifiers
As a long-time fan of Dota 2 and OG, this unexpected turn of events has left me quite stunned. The team that once brought us the Aegis of Champions now finds itself out of the PGL Wallachia S2 WEU Closed Qualifier. It’s hard not to feel a twinge of sadness, especially considering their recent struggles, even before the departure of their captain, Sébastien “Ceb” Debs.
Original Gaming (OG) has been defeated by the newly-assembled AVULUS alliance. Discover the reasons behind their captain’s absence, future plans for OG, and additional insights into their elimination!
Despite seemingly favorable circumstances, OG suffered an unexpected early exit in the PGL Wallachia S2 WEU Closed Qualifier. The European team, despite beating Mousesports as predicted, were outplayed by the relatively new team AVULUS, who bested them 2-0 in the competition.
The team enjoyed a short spell of triumph following the acquisition of Enzo “Timado” Gianoli, yet it appears those days are behind us now. As far back as July 19, our team was forced to compete without our captain, Sébastien “Ceb” Debs, who took paternity leave. However, even before that, members of OG had been facing less than ideal results, placing 9th-12th at the Riyadh Masters 2024 tournament.
In the same vein as when Oleh “kaori” Medvedok stood in for Ceb during the PGL Wallachia S2 Qualifiers instead of OG, just like in Elite League S2, he proved to be a suitable replacement in terms of skill. Moreover, he boasts some experience under his belt, having served as captain of PSG for a year and a half. However, it’s worth noting that Ceb’s leadership abilities and speeches are unparalleled, as we have seen on numerous occasions.
AVULUS eliminated OG from the PGL Wallachia S2
The opening match didn’t go well for team OG, as they were defeated by MOUZ in the initial game. This setback made their opponents the immediate favorites, with commentators and fans anticipating a swift 2-0 loss for OG. However, against all odds, OG managed to win the second game following a tense 50-minute battle.
In the third match, OG employed a surprising tactic with no previous success – placing a square Chronosphere on Timado’s Faceless Void. Somehow, it paid off, fueling favorable memes that propelled them forward to the subsequent round.
During their PGL Wallachia S2 Closed Qualifiers campaign, the odds were leaning towards OG. Their upcoming opponent, AVULUS, entered the match following a loss to Team Secret – a relatively new squad consisting of Tobi, who had taken a four-month break, and Kyzko, an exceptionally skilled player without any top-tier competitive experience under his belt.
In addition to AVULUS, this team boasted powerful players like Daniel “Stormstormer” Schoetzau and Akbar “SoNNeikO” Butaev. Interestingly, they had only played together on one occasion prior – a Tier 3 tournament known as the CCT Series, where they placed third under the name Team Tea. Remarkably, this squad, without any backing from a sponsor and with limited experience, managed to defeat OG convincingly by a score of 2-0. The games lasted slightly over half an hour each.
Following this loss, OG won’t have any games until the commencement of DreamLeague’s S24 qualifiers, assuming there are no visa complications along the way.
While we wait for Ceb’s return, why don’t you kill some time with us?
