As a die-hard fan of horror movies and a connoisseur of monster lore, I can hardly contain my excitement over Universal’s latest move to reboot “The Creature From The Black Lagoon” with none other than the maestro of modern horror himself, James Wan! With his extensive portfolio of successful horror franchises under his belt, it’s clear that this man knows how to scare the living daylights out of us while still paying homage to the classics.
It appears that Universal Studios has been endeavoring to establish a cinematic universe centered around timeless movie monsters, but the journey hasn’t been smooth, as evidenced by the 2017 reboot of The Mummy with Tom Cruise. However, they’ve had some successes such as The Invisible Man in 2020, and they continue to develop movies featuring characters like the Wolf Man, Dracula, and Frankenstein’s monster.
Some of them seem quite promising; without a doubt, Guillermo del Toro could create an intriguing take on the classic tale of Frankenstein. Universal has enlisted another seasoned director, James Wan, to reimagine the submerged horror movie, The Creature From The Black Lagoon. Known for his significant contributions to horror series like Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring, as well as the recent success M3GAN, it’s clear that he knows how to draw a crowd. He seems to be a perfect fit for the MonsterVerse.
It appears that Universal’s “Dark Universe” label didn’t quite catch on, so perhaps it’s time for a fresh start. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, director James Wan proposed a reboot of Black Lagoon as a contemporary retelling with a focus on intense horror while still honoring the original. It certainly sounds promising!
A new animated Ghostbusters TV show is coming to Netflix
As a devoted fan, let me share some thrilling news about my beloved Ghostbusters! According to Variety, Netflix is developing an animated series inspired by the more contemporary films like Afterlife and Frozen Empire, featuring stars such as Paul Rudd and Finn Wolfhard. However, it’s still uncertain whether these gentlemen will be making appearances in the show.
Netflix has selected Elliott Kalan, known for his work on The Daily Show and Mystery Science Theater 3000, as well as being the host of the movie-focused podcast The Flophouse, where he described Ghostbusters: Afterlife as “somewhat average” (as reported by The A.V. Club). Now, he’s been given an opportunity to enhance the new series he’ll be running.
