Let’s Talk About the Shocking Twist Ending of Emily in Paris Season 4, Part 1

As a seasoned movie reviewer who’s seen more romantic entanglements than a soap opera writer, I must say that “Emily in Paris” has outdone itself with this latest twist! The rollercoaster of emotions, the heartbreak, and the false pregnancies (oh my!) are enough to rival even the most dramatic French dramas.

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Season 4 Part 1 of Emily in Paris.

In most of its past seasons, the show “Emily in Paris” has primarily revolved around the complicated love triangle involving Emily (Lily Collins), her friends, the stylish French duo Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and Camille (Camille Razat). Despite Emily and Gabriel expressing their feelings for each other in the dramatic finale of Season 3, it appears that Gabriel’s discovery of Camille’s pregnancy with his child and her secret love for artist Sofia (Melia Kreiling) has momentarily halted their relationship.

In Season 4, it appears that each friend might be heading towards fulfilling their heart’s wishes, despite the ongoing complexities in their interwoven situations. Following a turbulent phase where she retreats to find herself, Camille decides to pursue a romantic connection with Sofia (who relocates from Athens to Paris for her) and parenthood with Gabriel simultaneously. Emily ends her relationship with Alfie to ultimately explore a romance with Gabriel, marking an end to years of romantic strife and secret admiration.

The timeless saying “A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor” seems to create persistent difficulties for friends and romantic partners, like Sofia and Camille. Currently residing with Gabriel as they search for an apartment, this arrangement leaves Gabriel and his girlfriend Emily in a tight spot, as Mindy (Ashley Park) shares her small studio apartment and bed, offering them little privacy as a new couple. This unusual living situation also underscores the deep-rooted bond and blurred boundaries between Camille and Gabriel, who express their lifelong connection by stating they’ll “always be family,” causing concern for both Emily and Sofia, especially considering a baby is on the horizon.

When Sofia and Camille manage to get their own apartment, surprisingly in the same building as Emily and Gabriel, it seems like a solution to this four-person relationship’s worries. However, instead of alleviating their concerns, it uncovers the actual issues within the group. During a shopping trip at Les Puces for their new shared space, Sofia ends her relationship with Camille, explaining that she hadn’t planned on moving to Paris but was swept up in her feelings towards Camille—and she struggles with Camille’s hesitance to leave the city and Gabriel. Sofia then goes back to Athens and extends an invitation for Camille to rejoin her and resume their relationship.

In the culmination of the fourth season’s first part, Camille’s deep sadness following their breakup, compounded by Emily and Gabriel’s growing relationship, reaches its peak. This heartache intensifies when she learns that her positive pregnancy test was a rare false result, and her missed period was actually caused by stress – she was never pregnant at all. In the last episode of this seasonal segment, Camille mourns these two losses. Instead of revealing to Gabriel that she is not pregnant, she chooses to keep it secret, perhaps in an effort to prevent losing another person she cares for deeply.

For the present, Camille’s startling disclosure is kept private, but it’s uncertain if this secrecy will persist or for how long. In Season 4, Part 2 airing on Netflix on September 12, we’ll discover how Camille’s significant secret impacts her friendships with Emily and Gabriel, as well as her romantic relationship with Sofia.
