The Project unveils surprise new panelist in huge hosting shake-up

As a lifelong fan of quality talk shows and sports broadcasting, I must say that I am genuinely thrilled to see Max Rushden joining The Project panel. Having followed his career as a presenter on Soccer AM and the UEFA’s Champions League, it’s exciting to see him bring his unique charm and wit Down Under.

On Friday, the Project introduced a fresh panel member during a major overhaul in the hosting lineup on their ongoing talk show.

I had the privilege of joining Georgie Tunny, Michael Hing, and Susie Youssef on the panel as we all shared the hosting duties together for the very first time. It was an honor to stand alongside these esteemed colleagues.

As I stepped into the studio for my debut on Network 10’s current affairs show, I felt like a rockstar receiving a thunderous ovation from the audience, knowing they were there to witness this sports enthusiast in action.

In his new position, Max joked about being clueless earlier, but expressed his heartfelt gratitude for having the opportunity to host the program.

He said, “Things have moved really fast; I was only around on Friday, and they unexpectedly had me go on the air, which is why I’m here now.”

‘I’m delighted to be here, I have no idea what I’m doing so I’m just going to watch Georgie.’

Referencing the viral Olympic performance by Australian breakdancer Raygun humorously, he quipped, “I don’t work as a broadcaster; I came to Australia on a visa for breakdancing.”

Max is particularly recognized in Australia for his role as the host of the UEFA’s Champions League and Europa League on the Australian streaming platform, Stan Sports.

The Project’s unique feature is its regularly changing lineup of hosts, where Rove McManus frequently joins Georgie, Michael, and Susie every Friday evening.

Many other stars, such as Myf Warhurst, Rachel Corbett, Tara Rushton, Liz Ellis, and numerous others, have held the role of the fourth host on the Friday program.

The hosting shake-up comes just weeks after viewers called for The Project to be cancelled after it was thrown into chaos with an evacuation during a live broadcast.

About a week ago, instead of the scheduled program, viewers saw an episode of The Dog House Australia on Channel 10. This unexpected change occurred as the cast and crew had to vacate the studio prematurely.

The show needed to be suddenly stopped, and later on, host Sarah Harris revealed that it was due to a false alarm caused by a faulty smoke detector.

Despite the turmoil, people swiftly turned to social media platforms to express their dissatisfaction, advocating for the permanent removal of the program from broadcast.

Some found humor in the situation, suggesting they were reluctantly pulled away from The Dog House when The Project returned to air during the same program.

One Facebook user expressed their opinion candidly by saying: ‘Permanently keep them away from the screen.’

1. One individual remarked, “That’s the most dreadful news program on television!” Another person responded, “So who’s watching? I didn’t realize it had been cancelled!” (Or)

As a devoted follower, I found myself expressing similar sentiments: “I had assumed it was lost forever… I felt so disheartened,” or “All we can do is keep our fingers crossed and pray for its permanent cancellation.”

1. It’s disheartening; for a brief moment, I was thrilled, thinking The Project had ended at last. Still, I remain hopeful. (Another person put it this way.)
