NASCAR Cup Series team not returning for Michigan race
As a fervent NASCAR enthusiast with over two decades of racing passion under my belt, I must say that the ever-evolving nature of the sport continues to amaze me. The unexpected participation of MBM Motorsports at Richmond Raceway and their subsequent absence from Michigan International Speedway is a testament to the unpredictability that makes NASCAR so exciting.
Initially, MBM Motorsports had no intention of participating in the NASCAR Cup Series race that took place last Sunday evening at Richmond Raceway.
However, NASCAR required Parker Retzlaff to participate in a non-superspeedway race prior to racing with Beard Motorsports at Daytona International Speedway next weekend. Consequently, the No. 66 Ford was fielded by Carl Long’s team for the young Rhinelander, Wisconsin native.
2024 season saw MBM Motorsports make their seventh points race appearance, with Retzlaff being their sixth distinct driver. So far, B.J. McLeod is the only one to drive the No. 66 Ford multiple times in these points races this year. Other drivers for this vehicle include Timmy Hill, David Starr, Chad Finchum, and Josh Bilicki.
However, MBM Motorsports, absent from the Cup Series last season, won’t be competing in this upcoming race at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday afternoon.
MBM Motorsports not competing at Michigan
It’s worth noting that only chartered vehicles have made it onto the roster for the FireKeepers Casino 400, a 200-lap race held at the 2.0-mile (3.219-kilometer) oval track in Brooklyn, Michigan. No non-chartered cars will be participating; instead, a total of 36 chartered ones are set to compete.
MBM Motorsports are scheduled for six additional Cup Series races towards the end of the season, but they haven’t disclosed who will be driving these races. They aim to participate in the upcoming race at Daytona this coming Saturday evening, but have yet to reveal their driver for that event as well.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that starting from Saturday, September 21st at Bristol Motor Speedway, all the way through to Sunday, November 10th at Phoenix Raceway, I’ll be rooting for my No. 66 Ford! The action-packed schedule also includes stops at Kansas Speedway on the 29th of September, the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval on October 13th, and Las Vegas Motor Speedway on October 20th. Can’t wait to see it all unfold!
Listen in on USA Network at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time this coming Sunday, August 18th, to catch the real-time transmission of the FireKeepers Casino 400 from Michigan International Speedway. Sign up for a free FuboTV trial so you won’t miss out on the action!
