Olivia Attwood says Love Island IS diverse because the women have ‘different heights and hair’ as she blames trolls for lack of plus size contestants
As a devoted fan of Olivia Attwood, I find her journey to be nothing short of inspiring. Having started her career in the modeling and grid girl world, where conformity was the norm, it’s no wonder she found Love Island to be a breath of fresh air, with its diversity and acceptance.
Olivia Attwood confessed that she was taken aback by the controversy over Love Island’s diversity, as she believed the program already had a diverse cast.
In 2017, the television personality made an appearance on the third season of a dating show, eventually placing third alongside Chris Hughes. Their romantic journey commenced with Sam Gowland from Geordie Shore initially.
Currently wedded to soccer player Bradley Dack, in the most recent installment of her podcast titled “So Wrong It’s Right,” Olivia engaged in conversation with Jameela Jamil, aged 38, discussing improvements in body portrayal within the show.
Olivia revealed: ‘I was having this conversation this morning, actually, before you were coming in, with my team and my producers, because I was like, “It’s an interesting one”, because it’s something people ask me a lot.
From personal experience within the system, I find it challenging to step back and observe it from an external perspective.
Later on, Olivia shared: ‘I hail from an industry centered around modeling, grid girls, and beauty pageants – where regular occurrences involve lining up for evaluation or measurement.’
In my previous role with the energy corporations, I was required to maintain specific appearance standards. This included adhering to a particular height requirement, wearing a specific hairstyle, and using a single approved nail color.
In Love Island, I found myself remarking: “Wow, look at that, there are individuals with varying heights, diverse hair colors, distinct styles.” Thus, my perspective seemed quite unique compared to what others might perceive from the outside.
Furthermore, I believe I had become rather insensitive to much of what the girl went through after being part of that program. It didn’t faze me, as I had grown quite immune to comments about body image, whether it was discussing appearances in swimsuits or other similar topics.
Olivia commented on the absence of plus-size contestants, stating: ‘It seems that when you have a show with people in swimsuits throughout the whole summer, it tends to favor certain body types.’
Based on my own experiences working with casting teams and modeling agencies, I’ve noticed a pattern: those who dislike themselves in swimwear are less likely to apply for such roles. This observation is not surprising given that confidence often plays a significant role in an individual’s decision to audition or participate in activities like modeling. It’s crucial for individuals to embrace their bodies and learn to love themselves, as this self-acceptance can lead to personal growth and opportunities in various aspects of life.
‘Which is why you end up then with a lot of people who all look very similar.
Later, if you manage to attract someone with a more voluptuous figure, the internet can be quite harsh. This may make future potential partners hesitant. The concept could be applied.
During an interview with The Sunday Times in July, Olivia reminisced warmly about her time as a grid girl.
She shared: “That position was a lifesaver for me. It allowed me to explore different parts of the globe, instilled self-discipline in me, and introduced me to remarkable individuals. To imagine another person missing out on this chance would be quite disheartening for me.”
Once I’d determined my goal, I found myself intensely dedicated to it. Each choice I’ve made for the past five years has been guided by a larger vision.
No matter who is more beautiful or intelligent than you, there will always be someone. However, I have the ability to outmatch anyone through sheer dedication and hard work.
2023 saw Olivia secure a hosting position at ITV for a fresh dating show titled TopMob; this was announced by TopMob in May.
A previous contestant on Love Island is now shooting a series in Greece. This program focuses on couples facing challenges due to unacceptable behavior from men. Olivia is lending her expertise to help these individuals alter their actions for the better.
In November, it was disclosed that Olivia was given a substantial contract worth six figures to star in the show, which many anticipate will become the new sensation similar to Love Island starting from then.
According to a TV insider, Olivia is thrilled beyond belief. Who would have thought that after appearing as a Love Island contestant, she’d eventually host her own dating show?
