IndyCar team hoping for ‘$1 million move’ with late driver change
As a seasoned IndyCar fan with decades of racing under my belt, I must say that the shake-ups in the paddock never cease to amaze me. The decision by Juncos Hollinger Racing to part ways with Agustin Canapino and bring in Conor Daly for the remainder of the 2024 season is one such move that has stirred up quite a storm.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share the news about my favorite team, Juncos Hollinger Racing, parting ways with Agustin Canapino after 12 races in the 2024 IndyCar season. This move, while not entirely unexpected to those who have kept up with the social media buzz surrounding Canapino and his Argentinian fanbase since he joined the American open-wheel racing series last year, still leaves me with a mix of emotions.
However, beyond the internet debate, Canapino’s racing results, particularly his persistent disadvantage against teammate Romain Grosjean and his slow development since his rookie year, created a predicament for Juncos Hollinger Racing with only five races left in the regular season.
Team No. 78 has yet to secure a top-10 position in any points race so far, placing them in 25th overall among all entrants. In terms of Leaders’ Circle eligible entries, they currently rank 23rd, but only the top 22 will receive $1 million payouts from IndyCar at season’s end.
As a dedicated racing fan, I can’t help but feel excited about the potential shift within Juncos Hollinger Racing. Following Meyer Shank Racing’s successful strategy of replacing their underperforming driver with David Malukas, who impressively secured sixth place in Toronto, they’ve built up a substantial 28-point lead over the top 22 cutoff. I’m eagerly hoping that Juncos Hollinger Racing will experience a similar surge in performance, as they seek to capitalize on this inspiring example and elevate their team to new heights!
As I, a dedicated gamer and racing enthusiast, excitedly announce, it’s confirmed that Conor Daly will be taking the wheel of the No. 78 Chevrolet for the rest of the 2024 season! The action kicks off this coming Saturday night at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway. Buckle up, folks, it’s going to be a thrilling ride!
Conor Daly joins Juncos Hollinger Racing
Since the start of his IndyCar career in 2013, Daly will soon be racing with Juncos Hollinger Racing, making it his eleventh different team.
For the last part of the racing season in 2024, we have five exciting races lined up! Four out of these will take place on oval tracks – starting with this weekend’s Gateway race, followed by a doubleheader at the Milwaukee Mile and the Nashville Superspeedway.
For the past few seasons, Daly has focused on short oval races. Despite not having raced in IndyCar events at Milwaukee or Nashville, Gateway stands out as his top race track, where he’s enjoyed success with various teams. In 2017, he placed fifth with A.J. Foyt Enterprises, and followed up with three more top 10 finishes in 2019 and 2020 while racing with Carlin.
Currently, the No. 78 team finds themselves five points shy of the No. 41 A.J. Foyt Enterprises team in the race for the 22nd and last eligible position to receive a Leaders’ Circle payout. The No. 20 Ed Carpenter Racing team, meanwhile, holds a slight advantage with only two points separating them from the No. 41 team. Notably, Daly has raced for both Foyt and Carpenter in his IndyCar career.
If Daly consistently delivers better-than-average race results in the upcoming events, it could significantly improve Juncos Hollinger Racing’s chances of winning the extra $1 million, given their current lower average points per race and the narrow competition margins we’ve seen so far this season.
Hey there, gaming buddies!
