ABC News Breakfast: Outgoing co-host Lisa Millar’s replacement is revealed

ABC News Breakfast: Outgoing co-host Lisa Millar's replacement is revealed

As a seasoned lifestyle expert with over three decades of experience in journalism, I can confidently say that Bridget Brennan’s new role as co-host of News Breakfast is a testament to her hard work and dedication. Having started at the ABC as a cadet journalist, Bridget has proven herself to be an exceptional reporter and presenter, demonstrating her versatility in various roles within the organization.

news announcer, Lisa Millar, has decided to step down from her role as co-host of News Breakfast, with Bridget Brennan taking over as the new co-host.

The announcement was made on Thursday morning.

Starting from now, Brennan, a long-time employee at ABC since 2010, will be teaming up with Michael Rowland as a co-host.

On Thursday morning, Brennan expressed her feelings of being both honored and thrilled as she shared the news about embarking on a brand-new position.

She expressed her delight at having the opportunity to collaborate with Michael and Lisa, whom she had admired for years, and to learn from them, forming a profound and beautiful friendship in the process, which she considered an honor.

Initially, Brennan began his career at ABC as a trainee journalist. Earlier, he served as the channel’s editor for Indigenous Affairs and as the national correspondent covering Indigenous affairs.

The news arrives several weeks following Millar’s, who is 55 years old, disclosure about her departure from the program, which is scheduled for August 23rd.

Over the last five years, it’s been an incredible ride – from discussing important topics with world leaders and renowned thinkers to receiving karaoke support from my longtime hero, Gladys Knight, as I shared on air in July.

Over three and a half decades as a journalist, nothing has ever gotten my heart racing quite like this! The adrenaline, the uncertainty, and the pure joy – it’s all been indescribable. But it wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible team, both on camera and behind the scenes, who kept me in stitches with their wit and camaraderie.

She’ll stay with ABC, dedicating time to her assorted ventures: acting as the narrator for the Logie-nominated show Muster Dogs, making appearances on Back Roads as a guest host, and sharing duties as co-host on the podcast The Newsreader.

“Millar shared that they will continue embarking on more journeys with Back Roads and the ever-expanding Muster Dogs. The growing Muster Dogs pack brings a wealth of tasks and innovative initiatives, making it an exhilarating time. With so much on the horizon, Millar said their farewell.”

Since 1993, I’ve been proudly part of the ABC family. Recently, I found it necessary to bid farewell to ABC News Breakfast, a decision that wasn’t made lightly. You see, I stood up against the vile online trolls who attacked me back in March, not just for their criticism of my appearance, but also for the unfair media coverage they gave to the abuse I had endured. As an ardent fan, I admire her courage and stand by her, even as she moves on from ABC News Breakfast.

I was utterly appalled by those remarks, particularly since they were uttered just days before International Women’s Day. As a passionate advocate for women, it felt like a painful slap in the face.

She stated that the clothing she chose to wear on Monday prompted inappropriate, offensive comments on Twitter, along with vile personal insults that were too harsh to be repeated here – it was distressing for her.

On International Women’s Day, I feel a deep sense of frustration. This emotion is not just personal but also shared with countless other women, especially the younger generation, who witness such acts of violence against women, like myself, being repeated daily. It doesn’t matter what reasons bullies might have; it’s unacceptable and needs to stop.

“I fear it could give the impression that little or no advancement is happening, leading one to question if it’s worth being active in the public sphere as a woman.”
