Janet Jackson reveals her famous family ties that 'not a lot of people know' about

As someone who has spent countless hours poring over family trees and uncovering hidden connections in the world of entertainment, I can’t help but feel a sense of awe at Janet Jackson‘s latest revelation. To discover that she shares not just a stage, but also blood ties with musical icons like Stevie Wonder, Tracy Chapman, and Samuel L. Jackson, is nothing short of astounding!

Janet Jackson is unveiling the lesser-known branches of her star-studded family tree.

Apart from her family bandmates, the singer of “That’s the Way Love Goes” mentioned connections with Stevie Wonder, Tracy Chapman, and Samuel L. Jackson during her radio interview on BBC 2’s “The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show”. This conversation took place after the North American leg of her Together Again tour, which is set to move to Europe this autumn, following its conclusion.

Jackson shared with BBC host Scott Mills that not many people are aware of the fact that we’re cousins from his mother’s family. This revelation left Scott astonished, as he exclaimed, “Wow, that’s truly mind-blowing!”

She additionally referred to Chapman and Jackson as “cousins,” jokingly mentioning that while they share her last name, Jackson is not her biological brother. It’s worth noting that the actor from “Pulp Fiction” previously dismissed any familial ties with Michael Jackson in a 2017 interview with Wired.

As I delved into the film’s backstory, it wasn’t initially evident any direct connections between our protagonist and her so-called cousins. Yet, a casual perusal of the public genealogy of the Jackson 5 revealed an intriguing figure—my great uncle, Samuel Jackson, who shares the same surname with our leading lady.

According to TMZ, Wonder is distantly related to the Jackson family as their third cousin, one generation apart, although they don’t provide a reference for this claim.

On Wednesday, neither Janet Jackson, Quincy Jones (Wonder), nor Samuel L. Jackson provided an immediate response when The Times asked for a comment. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get hold of a representative for Kathy Griffin (Chapman) to provide a comment promptly either.

People were taken aback by Jackson’s statements following Mills’ reshare of his interview video with the singer, which he posted on X on Tuesday.

“Woah!! What a dynasty,” one person commented.

“I was taken aback when I discovered the family connections between Stevie, Sam, and Tracey. I had only known about Stevie from my own experiences growing up, but learning that they were related to each other too was a revelation. It makes me wonder what kind of legacy these individuals have left behind in their lives and communities.”

Historically speaking, or not, the Jackson family can be traced back to their connection with Stevland “Stevie” Wonder, dating as far back as 1980 when Jermaine Jackson collaborated with him on his song “Let’s Get Serious.” Moreover, Wonder teamed up with Michael Jackson in two duets: “Get It” and “Just Good Friends.”
