Overwatch 2 teases WoW collaboration with Frostmourne

The debut trailer for Season 12 of Overwatch 2 has been released! It showcased several exciting upcoming features such as the introduction of Hanaoka and Throne of Anubis Clash maps, a new mythic skin for Reaper, a rank reset, specialized missions for mastering Zarya and Pharah (Hero Mastery missions), and perhaps an alliance between Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft.

In a hint at a potential collaboration, Blizzard subtly suggested Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft might team up at the close of the Season 12 launch trailer. The teaser featured concept art of Juno, as well as new outfits for Reaper, Genji, Kiriko, and Echo. The setting then shifted to the Antarctic Peninsula map, where a silhouette unveiled Frostmourne – an iconic artifact from the World of Warcraft lore!

In the realm of World of Warcraft, Frostmourne is the Lich King’s formidable weapon, adorned with distinct runes. The replica of Frostmoverne in Overwatch 2 preserves these identical markings. One of the most recognizable bearers of Frostmourne was Arthas Menethil, who transitioned into the Lich King and a Death Knight.

Could it be that Arthas himself will join the roster in Overwatch 2? There’s speculation that a character might receive an Arthas-themed skin instead, or perhaps we’ll see a weapon skin inspired by him. In previous iterations of Overwatch, we’ve seen skins based on characters from World of Warcraft like Illidan Genji and Tyrande Symmetra.
