David Tennant’s forgotten family movie becomes a Netflix hit
As a seasoned gamer with a keen eye for animation and a soft spot for underdog stories, I must say that the unexpected resurgence of David Tennant’s forgotten gem, Ferdinand, on Netflix has been nothing short of delightful. Having grown up watching Tennant’s iconic portrayal of the Doctor in Doctor Who, it was a treat to see him lend his vocal talents to the lovable Angus the bull in this heartwarming tale.
David Tennant’s forgotten family animation Ferdinand has become an unexpected hit on Netflix.
First debuted in 2017, this film revolves around a recalcitrant bull who resists the spectacle of bullfighting, yet finds himself thrust back into the ring. His convictions are tested when he confronts the greatest matador the world has ever seen.
Additionally, joining Tennant, who lends his voice to the Scottish highland bull Angus, the movie also includes the vocal talents of John Cena from Peacemaker and Kate McKinnon, known for her role in Barbie.
Last week, it was disclosed that the film “Ferdinand” ranked as the second most-watched movie worldwide on Netflix, accumulating a total of 7.3 million views and being watched for a combined 13.3 million hours.
The movie beat titles such as Kingsman: The Secret Service and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, though sat behind Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie.
Previously, Tennant resumed his memorable portrayal of The Doctor in “Doctor Who” for three special episodes to mark an anniversary. However, even though his character received a satisfying conclusion, Tennant has subsequently maintained that this marked the end of his stint in the role.
The door has remained closed just as it always has been, for in “Doctor Who,” there are numerous methods to resurrect characters. He explained to Radio Times that this marks the conclusion of the tale.
As a devoted fan, I might put it this way: “I sometimes wonder aloud, ‘What if Patrick Troughton’s Time Lord had touched down here?’ But when I ponder over it, I realize I’m no longer active in the game. The Fourteenth Doctor has hung up his sonic screwdriver, too!”
Later on, Showrunner Russell T Davies reiterated similar thoughts, stating unequivocally that Tennant was no longer a part of the series and had definitely ruled out any future appearances.
The performer has a packed schedule ahead, featuring roles in the Disney+ adaption of “Rivals,” based on Jilly Cooper’s work, as well as the film adaptation of “The Thursday Murder Club,” penned by Richard Osman.
