How Game of Thrones fans talk to Iwan Rheon, who played hated villain Ramsay Bolton
As a fan who has witnessed the dark and twisted world of Westeros through the lens of Game of Thrones, I must say that Iwan Rheon’s portrayal of Ramsey Bolton left an indelible mark on me. The character was so vile and reprehensible, yet Rheon brought such a chilling authenticity to his performance that it was impossible not to be captivated by him.
In the epic series “Game of Thrones,” some truly chilling antagonists emerged, including Joffrey Baratheon, Cersei Lannister, and Ramsey Bolton, a cold-hearted, twisted character who brought pain to Sansa Stark and Theon Greyjoy. As a son born outside marriage (literally) and a monster in his actions (figuratively), he was loathed by many viewers. When he met his end near the close of season 6, it sparked widespread jubilation among fans.
During his time on the show, actor Iwan Rheon, who played the character Bolton, experienced some unusual encounters with fans that were both during and after the series. In an interview with CBR, he admitted, “I hope people realize I’m an actor.” Fans often yelled at him, “Yeah, I hate you, you bastard,” but it was always done in jest. He didn’t face much trouble personally, but some fans might avoid interacting with him since they might still perceive him as the ruthless character Ramsay Bolton. Interacting with someone like that could be risky.
For the record, Rheon hasn’t watched HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon.
