James Corden shares huge Gavin & Stacey filming update
As a longtime fan of British comedy, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming Gavin & Stacey Christmas special! Having grown up with the show and its quirky characters, it feels like reuniting with old friends to hear that they’re heading back to Barry Island once again. The fact that James Corden is sharing this news hot on the heels of his successful run at London’s Old Vic Theatre only adds to the anticipation!
James Corden has shared an exciting update on the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special.
The actor from Smithy, who collaborates on the cherished BBC comedy with Ruth Jones, disclosed that the cast will journey to Wales to initiate filming for the holiday special.
In a new Instagram post, Corden shared an update about the show as he celebrated wrapping up the latest run of “The Constituent” at London’s Old Vic Theatre.
Tonight marked the conclusion of my run at The Old Vic Theatre with “The Constituent.” I’m struggling to express what this play experience has meant to me; it’s truly been a life-altering journey. Here’s a video of me taking my final bow on stage as I bid farewell to this incredible role.
Following compliments towards his fellow actors, James Corden wrapped up by sharing his upcoming project – a 7-week stint at Barry Island. He ended his message with, “Sending all my love, James.” (Informal)
Fans of “Gavin & Stacey” will recognize the coastal town in the Vale of Glamorgan that is depicted as Stacey’s hometown on the series, where characters such as her mom Gwen, Uncle Bryn, and best friend Nessa live.
The planned filming for August will be a bit ahead of schedule compared to what the actor had anticipated. Earlier, during his interview on Zoe Ball’s BBC Radio 2 Breakfast show, Corden mentioned that he believed filming would start in “September/October.”
During the same interview, he openly acknowledged that the filming schedule would be quite challenging, possibly explaining why they’re commencing production slightly ahead of time.
As a devoted fan of British comedy, I was overjoyed to hear the confirmation of the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special this year after months of speculation. Having grown up watching the show and its characters become an integral part of my life, seeing Corden and Jones together with a script in hand on their Instagram post was like receiving a long-awaited Christmas present in May. I can’t wait to see what new adventures await Smithy, Nessa, and the rest of the gang this holiday season!
2021 will be the first year our annual holiday special is broadcast since Gavin & Stacey made their comeback in 2019 with a Christmas episode featuring an intriguing proposal left hanging as a cliffhanger.
Did Smithy say yes to Nessa? It’s hoped audiences will discover the answer in the upcoming episode.
As a long-time fan of British sitcoms, I couldn’t be happier to learn that Gavin & Stacey seasons 1-3 are now available for streaming on BBC iPlayer. Growing up in the UK during the early 2000s, this show was a staple of my television diet, providing much-needed laughter and relatable characters during some challenging teenage years. The chemistry between Gavin and Stacey, along with their eccentric families, made for a truly unforgettable viewing experience.
