As a fervent admirer of Christina Applegate, I am deeply moved by her resilience and courage in the face of adversity. Her life story is a testament to the indomitable spirit that lies within us all, and her ability to find humor even in the darkest of situations is truly inspiring.

Photos from DailyMail.com reveal that breast cancer survivor Christina Applegate was spotted smoking a cigarette during her ongoing struggle with multiple sclerosis.

In my role as a lifestyle advisor, I find myself deeply moved by the inspiring journey of a remarkable actress, who at 52, continues to shine despite battling health challenges throughout her adult life. Three years ago, she bravely faced a diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune disease. Since then, she’s been open and courageous about sharing her experiences living with this condition.

As a wellness advocate, I must admit that I’ve observed a slight hiccup in the health journey of this remarkable mom. Despite her current circumstances, it appears she’s struggled to break free from an unwanted habit – smoking. Just recently, in the bustling city of Los Angeles last week, I noticed her momentarily giving in to the allure of a cigarette.

Photos from DailyMail.com depict Applegate taking a brief cigarette break outside her vehicle before an upcoming meeting in the vicinity of Hollywood last Thursday.

The former star of Married…with Children, joined by a brunette companion, opted for a natural look without makeup and chose casual attire for their excursion.

In my own account, I’d describe myself as having my hair pulled back into a casual, slightly disheveled bun. I was donning a cool gray tank top with graphics, and there was a blue bandage securely wrapped around my right hand.

Over the years, Applegate has openly discussed her health struggles, among them an early-stage breast cancer diagnosis in 2008, for which she underwent a double mastectomy.

After making a complete comeback from her previous health issues, she encountered an even tougher health challenge 13 years later, in 2021. She revealed that she had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and it’s highly unlikely that we will see her on camera again.

As a neurologist who has spent years treating patients with this debilitating condition, I have witnessed firsthand the devastating impact it can have on people’s lives. The illness, where the immune system turns against the body and causes irreversible damage to the brain and spinal cord, is an incurable and lifelong affliction. It’s heartbreaking to see patients whose lives are changed forever by this disease, as some experience only mild symptoms while others suffer from severe disabilities. The unpredictability of the progression of this condition makes it all the more difficult to bear for both the patient and their loved ones. As a medical professional, I am dedicated to helping my patients manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life in any way possible, but the reality is that there is no cure for this devastating illness.

The cause of the disease is unclear and may be genetic, but it’s not directly hereditary.

Smoking and low vitamin D levels are also linked to MS.

Last week, Applegate was a guest on James Corden’s podcast “This Life of Mine” on SiriusXM. She acknowledged that reality TV was instrumental in assisting her during her multiple sclerosis treatment sessions.

The 52-year-old Emmy winner mentioned that her TV is always on at her $950K Hollywood Hills residence, as she spends a considerable amount of time in her room.

‘I know that sounds really depressing, but it’s kind of like I just need to sleep sometimes.’

As for her favorites, Christina seems to keep her TV locked on the cable network Bravo.

“She asked Corden for any kind of Reality TV shows, be it Vanderpump Rules, Below Deck, or any Housewife series.”

I find a deep appreciation for the authenticity and imperfections of real people; their flaws and quirks are what make them truly unique and human. Growing up, I was always drawn to individuals who embraced their idiosyncrasies rather than striving for perfection. These people seemed more genuine, more relatable, and they taught me that it’s okay not to fit into society’s mold. As I continue to grow and learn, I find myself constantly inspired by the rich tapestry of humanity around me, with each thread representing a different facet of our shared human experience.

I must admit, there’s something about reality TV that always gets under my skin. Growing up, I was never one for the limelight or dramatic displays of emotion, so watching these shows can be a bit unsettling. It’s almost as if I’m looking at a parallel universe where people walk around acting in ways that seem completely alien to me. I find myself shaking my head in disbelief, wondering how they manage to navigate their lives with such flair for the dramatic. But at the same time, I can’t look away – there’s a certain allure to the chaos and unpredictability of reality TV.

In the podcast recording from April 8, Applegate emotionally shared about the events preceding her diagnosis, disclosing that she was given the heartbreaking news during a Zoom consultation with her doctor, right on the set of Netflix’s Dead to Me.

Applegate tearfully recounted, “He showed me a photo of my brain and simply said, ‘I’m really sorry.’ To which I responded, ‘What exactly does that mean?’ He then clarified.”

As a medical professional who has been working with patients for many years, I can empathize deeply with those who receive devastating news about their health. Hearing that you have multiple sclerosis (MS) is indeed a shocking and life-altering diagnosis. The emotions that rush through your mind at that moment are a whirlwind of disbelief, fear, anger, and sadness.

Applegate has just joined forces with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, a longtime multiple sclerosis (MS) patient, to create and co-present a podcast titled “MeSsy.” This inspiring production debuted on March 19th.

The famous actor from Hollywood and the former Sopranos cast member aged 43 have recently chatted with various well-known figures such as Martin Short, Jimmy Kimmel, Jean Smart, Katie Couric, and Will Ferrell in interviews.

As a person who has gone through the trials and tribulations of watching a loved one battle a debilitating disease like Multiple Sclerosis (MS), I can truly empathize with Sadie, the 13-year-old daughter who recently spoke about her struggles on her mother’s podcast. It takes immense courage to share such personal experiences, especially at such a young age. I admire her for standing strong and using her voice to bring awareness to this challenging condition. Her story serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

As Applegate warmly greeted the teenager at the show, she expressed that her daughter was not just a wonderful guest but also the very reason why she finds joy in getting up every morning.

For several years, Sadie has accompanied her mother to a number of high-profile events, such as the 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards and the 2024 Emmys.

In March, Applegate admitted that multiple sclerosis has changed her ability to parent.

The actress shared with People that she has experienced losing her mother in a way similar to being a mother herself. They danced together daily, picked each other up from school, and worked side by side at her school, including time spent in the library. Now, she is no longer present for those everyday moments outside their home or bed.

She added: ‘This is a loss for her as well. And we’re both learning as we’re going along.’
