UFC 305 custom shorts, Canelo on UFC Sphere & Michael Chandler giving up on Conor McGregor?

As a seasoned gamer with decades of combat sports watching under my belt, I must say that the daily column breakdown is always something I eagerly anticipate. The UFC’s custom fight shorts have been quite the spectacle and the latest ones for Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya are no exception. They’re cool, but they don’t exactly scream their identities like Dustin Poirier and Max Hollway’s did. I wonder if the fighters have a say in what their shorts look like – maybe we could see some more unique designs in the future!

In this fresh, daily feature, I will dissect news stories stemming from the realm of combat sports and share my personal insights with you. Remember to stop by each morning for a roundup of the day’s most significant or enigmatic headlines, along with my opinions on those stories.

UFC 305 custom fight shorts revealed for Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya

At recent pay-per-view UFC fights, they’ve begun permitting personalized fight shorts for competitors, which have added a nice touch. The custom shorts for both du Plessis and Adesanya have now been unveiled.

As a lifelong fan of mixed martial arts, I must admit that I’ve always been a bit disappointed by the lackluster design of fighters’ shorts. I mean, these are the people who put their hearts and souls into the octagon, giving us some of the most intense and thrilling battles we’ve ever seen. And yet, their attire often feels like an afterthought.

Michael Chandler appears to be giving up on Conor McGregor

Michael Chandler has been eager to face off against Conor McGregor for over a year now, and it appears that after their June 29 match was postponed, he’s ready to explore other options. In an interview with Lucky Block, Chandler expressed his optimism about the potential fight, but acknowledged that discussions are ongoing. “At this moment, we’re in a phase where various aspects are being discussed: the date, who it’s against, potentially shifting to another contest, or making the best decision for me and my family,” he said. While he appreciates McGregor, Chandler emphasized that his legacy isn’t solely dependent on this fight. They had planned to compete in The Ultimate Fighter, trained together, and signed contracts, but as much as he respects McGregor, his career is more than just this one fight.

It seems that only Chandler appears to believe the McGregor fight is imminent. His determination to make it happen might lead to a significant milestone in his career, yet his optimism could also put the event at risk. Perhaps it’s time for Chandler to let go and no one would fault him for doing so.

Canelo isn’t concerned with competing with UFC Sphere on Sept. 14

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez appears unbothered by his fight clashing with the UFC’s Sphere event on the same night. “It’s a unique situation,” Canelo stated, “Other boxing matches might pose a challenge, but Canelo is exceptional. There are other types of fights, but Canelo is in a league of his own. I don’t mind if the UFC is there; when Canelo steps into the ring, it’s a different experience.”

It’s likely that fans of Canelo will watch his boxing match, while followers of the UFC will catch their event. To be honest, many people might have both playing simultaneously, frequently switching their attention between the two sporting events.
