New 35-minute video from the STALKER 2 team leans into authenticity

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit that the latest teaser for Stalker 2 has me more excited than a kid on Christmas Eve. The authenticity and attention to detail that GSC Game World is promising truly resonates with me, given my fond memories of playing the original Shadow of Chernobyl back in the day.

On Monday, the team behind Stalker 2, GSC Game World, shared a lengthy 35-minute sneak peek video on YouTube, giving fans a tantalizing glimpse into the forthcoming installment of their cherished open-world shooter series.

In this game, the Ukrainian team emphasized their commitment to authenticity in the user experience, which is rooted in the real-world environment surrounding the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. This authenticity extends beyond the game’s setting and can be seen in various other aspects of the game that have been shared with fans since 2007. As a result, if some locations seem familiar to you from the game STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, it’s because they are, but have been significantly upgraded to run smoothly on modern hardware.

Despite the video’s length, I find the details provided to be somewhat scarce, particularly about the intricate branching narrative and how it functions. We now have information on the inclusion of 35 weapons in the game, some of which will come with upgrades and attachments. Similar to the original version, the inventory system is expected to work by having individual items like healing kits cleverly concealed within the game environment. Fitting everything into your pack will still require a bit of strategic packing, especially given the stringent limitations on carrying capacity. The team has also shared that over three hours of cutscenes were filmed for the game, featuring a total of 43 unique scenes in all.

Initially slated for a September 5 launch, STALKER 2 has been pushed back to November 20. Upon release, players can enjoy the game on both PC and Xbox Series X. Notably, it will be an addition to the Xbox Game Pass program, meaning all subscribers can play it the same day it becomes available.
