Longlegs director’s new horror movie gets bloody first teaser
As a seasoned gamer with a knack for horror games and a soft spot for Stephen King adaptations, I must say that the trailer for “The Monkey” has me intrigued! The supernatural horror genre is one of my favorites, and the eerie atmosphere and blood-soaked teaser have definitely piqued my interest.
The Monkey, the new film from Longlegs director Osgood Perkins, has unveiled its first trailer.
In simpler terms, the story revolves around twin brothers Hal and Bill, portrayed by Theo James, who reunite to tackle a chilling supernatural menace linked to a haunted doll they encountered during their childhood. This terror is inspired by Stephen King’s 1980 short tale.
Prior to its launch in February 2025, the initial 45-second trailer undeniably leaves a strong impact. In it, we see James portraying his character, drenched in blood, alongside a blood-soaked room.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that besides James, the star-studded cast of “The Monkey” also features Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy. Notably, James Wan, renowned for his work in the chilling “The Conjuring” universe, is producing this feature film. I can hardly wait!
More recently, Perkins gained widespread recognition through the chilling horror-thriller titled “Longlegs“, where FBI agent Maika Monroe pursues the notorious serial killer, portrayed by Nicolas Cage, who has been causing havoc in Oregon with a series of grisly murders.
In his recent explanation, Perkins, both scriptwriter and director, elaborated on the reasoning behind the villain’s name, stating that as writers, they have a fondness for words, appreciating their sound, appearance, and overall texture.
As a gamer, I’ve got to say, there’s this eerie, spindly quality about it that gives me the heebie-jeebies, but at the same time, it’s got a vibe reminiscent of the ’70s. It’s like listening to a classic Led Zeppelin tune or spotting a psychedelic design on an old van – you know, something that just screams groovy!
“He said the term seemed old-fashioned and not frequently used nowadays, giving the movie an unusual vibe that was hard to grasp. It didn’t quite fit comfortably, yet this mismatch intrigued him and sparked a curiosity that he believed was significant.”
The Monkey is scheduled to be released in February 2025. Longlegs is in cinemas now.
