I was really intrigued to hear some new details about the upcoming film, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. What’s got everyone talking, though, is what Elijah Wood – you know, the actor who played Frodo – has been saying. He was discussing how profoundly the journey affected the Hobbits, and even suggested that they’re still dealing with everything that happened long after the end of the original Lord of the Rings trilogy. It sounds like it’s going to be a really interesting look at the lasting consequences of their adventure.
Elijah Wood talks Hobbits’ state in LOTR: The Hunt for Gollum
While production continues on The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, the Yellowjackets actress has been thinking about how deeply the original Lord of the Rings movies affected the characters of the Hobbits.
In a recent interview with Dexerto, Elijah Wood discussed how the characters wouldn’t be able to simply go back to their old lives after everything they experienced. He explained that the Hobbits would definitely be carrying trauma from their journey and everything they went through together.
Wood also highlighted the ending of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King as an example of this idea.
The actor, 45, explained that the final scene in Return of the King – with everyone together at the pub, enjoying drinks – perfectly captured the characters’ feelings after their journey. He said it showed how they’d all been profoundly changed by everything they’d experienced and understood the weight of what they’d gone through.
Elijah Wood also shared his ideas for a potential return to the role of Frodo, suggesting it would be interesting to see his character in more action. He noted that Frodo didn’t have many opportunities for physical combat in the original movies and thought exploring that side of him could be fun.
This conversation is happening as plans for the next film in the series are developing. Ian McKellen has hinted that his character, Gandalf, will appear, and Frodo is also likely to be included in the story.
While Wood hasn’t officially said he’s rejoined, he hinted at a possible return in a conversation with The Times, saying there’s a “good chance.” He also seemed enthusiastic about the idea, describing a “genuine feeling of getting the band back together.”
