Coronation Street star quits after just one year on the soap - and they already have their next show lined up

As a dedicated follower of British soaps, I must say, the exit of Calum Lill from Coronation Street is a bittersweet moment for me. On one hand, I’m excited to see what he brings to his next role, given his impressive track record in shows like Hollyoaks and others. On the other hand, I’ll miss watching him play the villainous Joel Deering on the cobbles.

A Coronation Street star has quit the cobbles just one year after he first starred on the ITV soap.

The actor, with his next performance scheduled, is set to exit the soap opera in dramatic final episodes.

Actor Calum Lill, known for his role as villain Joel Deering, is set to shoot his last scenes within the following couple of months, as reported by The Sun.

According to recent updates, it seems that Bill Follows, the actor portraying Stu Carpenter, is set to depart from the show as well.

The truth came out about Joel: he had been manipulating and mistreating underage girls while also attempting to harm Lauren Bolton.

In a twisted plot, Joel tried to harm Lauren and her newborn by drugging her, intending to cause harm or even death. However, fate intervened as Lauren’s labor began prematurely, miraculously allowing their child to survive his dangerous plan.

Currently, his downfall seems imminent as his fiancée, Dee-Dee, has started to uncover his deceits, which could result in a surprising departure on his part.

The source informed the media outlet that Calum has significantly influenced his role as Joel during the past year, yet he was aware all along that this wasn’t a permanent arrangement.

‘He’s been great playing Joel but all good soap villains must get their comeuppance and Joel’s is coming very soon. He’s already landed his first job after the show and so he’ll be finished in time to start rehearsals for that.

‘But on-screen Joel has no idea what’s coming for him as his dark secrets start to be exposed.’

As a seasoned actor with years of experience under my belt, I am thrilled to share that I have secured my next role – I will be starring in the Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime this coming holiday season in Bournemouth! This is always an exciting time for me as I get to immerse myself in the magic of live theater and bring joy to families during the festive period. The anticipation builds as I prepare for the rehearsals, knowing that I’ll be stepping onto that stage once more to entertain and captivate audiences with my performance.

Last year, Calum, famous for his role as P.C. Carlton Smith on Hollyoaks, joined the cast of Coronation Street in 2021.

While on the show Hollyoaks, Calum played a significant role in the plot surrounding John Paul McQueen, where it was revealed that his character, PC George Smith, mistreated him.

Initially, he resided in the Cheshire village, but eventually moved to the cobblestone streets of Weatherfield to assume the position of the duty solicitor Joel on the popular soap opera.

In March 2021, the character of PC Smith, played by Calum, debuted in the TV series Hollyoaks and featured in a total of twelve episodes.

As a devoted fan, let me share some exciting news about Calum: Besides his notable role in Hollyoaks, he also graced the screens in three captivating short films in 2018 – I Can See Clearly Now, Sleep Warm, and Heads or Tails.

One year past, he took on roles in two productions. Specifically, he acted as Chez Wilson-Needham in Holby City, and portrayed Conor Henson in the Brummie soap opera, Doctors, during the same year.
