Bill Nighy’s “fantastic” Netflix drama is being removed from the streamer very soon

The Netflix movie The Beautiful Game, featuring Bill Nighy, will soon be leaving the streaming service. Released in 2024, it’s a heartwarming story about an English football team and their journey to the Homeless World Cup.

Bill Nighy plays Mal, the coach of England’s homeless football team. He leads his players to Rome, hoping they can win the Homeless World Cup, an international street soccer competition.

I’m really excited about this movie! Apparently, right before the big game, they bring on this amazing new player, Vinny (played by Micheal Ward), who could actually help them win. But it sounds like he’s got some personal stuff he needs to deal with first and really needs to commit to the team. It’ll be interesting to see if he can pull it together!

The Netflix movie will be taken off the service on March 28th, so fans only have a few days left to watch it.

Although it hasn’t been officially announced, the film – made by Film4 – will probably be taken off platforms to be shown first on Channel 4’s streaming service.

FilmWeek described this movie as surprisingly wonderful, even though it’s incredibly simple and unpretentious. They wrote, ‘It’s fantastic,’ despite its ordinariness.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie has a comfortable, familiar feel, similar to many British sitcoms. It relies on gentle humor – things like awkward situations, subtle irony, and perfectly timed comedic delivery.

The Associated Press noted that while the film is polished and upbeat, it also examines important ideas like overcoming mistakes, feeling overlooked, taking pride in oneself, and good sportsmanship – all without being overly moralistic or talking down to the audience.
