Guess who? TV and radio fan favourite stuns with hilarious throwback video with ‘no eyebrows’
As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for talent and a soft spot for resilience, I must say that Carrie Bickmore is undeniably one of Australia’s gems. Her journey from a radio journalist to a beloved TV and radio star, not just for her wit but also for her courage, is truly inspiring.
She’s a famous TV and radio star who has been a fan favourite for nearly two decades.
On Sunday, the Adelaide-born beauty and Gold Logie winner posted a vintage video from her early days in television on her Instagram.
On Network 10’s popular talk show Rove Live, the well-known comedienne and host entertains viewers with a collection of side-splitting comedy acts.
In the video from 2006, it seems she had significantly thinned her eyebrows, making them appear sparse, when she was around 37 years old.
Every day, she would provide a humorous take on the news during her recurring segment on The Rove Show, which significantly contributed to her gaining a devoted fanbase (remembering that a “cult following” refers to a group of particularly dedicated fans).
As a radio journalist embarking on my career, I had the privilege of working alongside Rove McManus. This association paved the way for me to take up a presenting role on The 7.30pm Project in 2009, a position that evolved into The Project over time.
So can you guess who the TV and radio star is? That’s right, it’s Carrie Bickmore.
In 2022, the cherished host departed from The Project and currently co-stars on a popular morning radio program alongside Tommy Little.
Carrie enjoyed herself by poking fun at herself in her post, showcasing old videos of her as a future TV celebrity sporting trendy eyebrows and thick makeup.
She told her fans, “For the nervous one, the jokester, the courageous one, the girl without eyebrows, I have love for each of you,” she expressed.
Her friend Rove McManus, 50, messaged her in response: ‘A superstar and she doesn’t even know it yet.’
Carrie’s segments on Rove, titled “Carrie at the News Desk,” gained a reputation for their amusing yet laugh-out-loud introductions.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’d liken myself to a unique blend of a refreshing milkshake and the latest news updates – just as Carrie Bickmore put it on Rove Live.
2010 saw Carrie earning one of television’s most prestigious awards, the Logie for Best New Female Talent. Additionally, she was recognized with nominations for the Gold Logie in both 2012 and 2013.
However, in the year 2015, she managed to win the Gold Logie, and during this triumphant moment, she moved her audience deeply by dedicating her victory to her late spouse, Greg Lange, who passed away due to brain cancer just five years prior.
Initially, Carrie embarked on her professional journey as a newscaster at 92.9 in Perth. Later on, she transitioned to Melbourne where, by the year 2002, she was hosting a drive time program alongside co-host Andy Ross on Nova 100.
Carrie shares a son Ollie, with her late husband.
Additionally, she has two daughters, Evie (age 8) and Adelaide (age 5), who she shares with her former partner Chris Walker. They parted ways in the year 2023, having been together for more than ten years previously.
It comes after Carrie and Tommy Little recently celebrated a career milestone.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the dynamic duo behind Hit Network’s Carrie & Tommy have been recognized with two nominations at this year’s Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs). The exciting news was revealed in July.
Carrie took to Instagram to celebrate.
Accompanied by a picture featuring her and co-host Tommy (aged 39), she shared the exciting news that their program has been nominated in two categories: ‘Outstanding On-Air Duo’ and ‘Funniest On-Air Segment’.
In 2017, the radio program that debuted on the Hit Network found itself in a competitive landscape alongside other prominent Australian radio personalities like Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O Henderson, Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips, as well as Brendan Jones and Amanda Keller.
In the latest listener poll (survey four), the radio pair successfully claimed the top spot for the Drive Time program in both Melbourne and Brisbane, marking their third straight victory in this category.
Since 2018, the Drive slot on The Hit Network has yet to yield a better outcome. Similarly, Brisbane B105 hasn’t recorded better results in the Drive timeframe since 2010.
