It Ends With Us records huge box-office opening as Borderlands flops
As a seasoned gamer and moviegoer with a soft spot for adaptations of my favorite video games, I must say that this week has been quite a rollercoaster ride at the box office! On one hand, we have “It Ends With Us” – a heart-wrenching drama that beautifully portrays the complexities of relationships and the struggle against domestic abuse. The chemistry between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni is undeniable, and I must admit, I found myself shedding a tear or two during some scenes.
It Ends With Us has made an impressive box-office debut, following mixed reviews.
The film, featuring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni in the lead roles, is based on a novel by Colleen Hoover with the same title.
On August 9th, the movie “It Ends With Us” was jointly produced for $25 million by Sony Pictures and Wayfarer Studios, run by Baldoni. As reported by Variety, it subsequently earned an impressive $50 million over 3,611 venues during its debut weekend.
The story centers on flower shop owner Lily Bloom (Lively), finding herself in a harmful relationship with brain surgeon Ryle Kincaid (Baldoni). Later, she reconnects with her initial love, eatery proprietor Atlas Corrigan (Sklenar).
In this film, we delve into the effects of domestic abuse, with Atlas standing by Lily, offering emotional solace amidst her hardships. Additionally, Baldoni not only acted but also took on the role of director for this production.
As a gamer, I dived into “It Ends With Us” and while some critics had mixed feelings about it, scoring it moderately on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie audience seemed to love it more. It managed to grab the second position at the box-office, with “Deadpool & Wolverine” still reigning supreme in the top spot.
In other locations, Cate Blanchett’s film “Borderlands” didn’t fare too well at the movie theaters upon its release. This video game adaptation earned approximately $8.8 million on its opening weekend from a total of 3,125 cinemas, finishing in fourth position.
The film chronicles the journey of renegade character Lilith (Blanchett), as she makes her way back to her celestial home, Pandora. Joining forces with a motley crew, Lilith embarks on a mission to locate the missing child of Atlas, the most influential figure in the cosmos.
Digital Spy’s review of Borderlands describes it as an extremely accurate visual depiction, featuring catchy soundtracks and a star-studded cast that’s hilarious. However, it falls short in delivering laughs, zany moments, and intense violence. Instead, it comes across as rather bland.
It Ends With Us and Borderlands are both out now in cinemas.
