Bob Tischler dead at 78: Former head writer for Saturday Night Live passes following battle with pancreatic cancer at his California home
As a dedicated follower of comedy and its masters, I am deeply saddened by the passing of Bob Tischler at 78. His contributions to Saturday Night Live (SNL) were not just laughs, but a lifeline for the iconic show when it faced its most challenging times in the early ’80s.
Bob Tischler, a former head writer for Saturday Night Live, has died at age 78.
His son Zeke told the New York Times his father died following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Tischler passed on July 13 at his home in Bodega Bay, California.
According to The Times, Tischler contributed significantly to the resurgence of Saturday Night Live during the early 1980s when the variety show was experiencing a decline.
The show experienced what was generally considered its poorest season, running from November 1980 to April 1981. Tischer joined as a producer in the spring of 1981 and later took on the role of chief writer the next year.
