Deadpool & Wolverine becomes first MCU movie in 3 years to hit $1 billion

As a longtime fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I must say that the success of Deadpool & Wolverine has been nothing short of exhilarating! Having grown up reading their comic book adventures, seeing them come to life on the big screen with such hilarious and action-packed brilliance is truly a dream come true.

The action-packed duo of Deadpool and Wolverine is now the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film to surpass $1 billion in global ticket sales, following Spider-Man: No Way Home.

In simple terms, the highly successful film managed to maintain its position atop the U.S. box office by earning an additional $54.6 million, pushing its total domestic earnings to $54.6 million. On a global scale, it has now accumulated a staggering $1.03 billion after just three weeks since its release.

The team-up of Deadpool and Wolverine hasn’t claimed the title of the highest-grossing R-rated movie yet, but they’re poised to outdo The Joker’s final earnings of $1.08 billion eventually.

It’s only the second R-rated movie to ever reach the huge milestone.

Regarding the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, Deadpool & Wolverine’s film stands as the 11th highest-earning movie at the box office, surpassing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Its next target is Captain Marvel’s $1.13 billion gross.

Currently in the U.S. box office, the movie stands as the sixth highest-grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe film ever, having earned $494.3 million, trailing behind the record of $623.4 million set by The Avengers.

Following the massive popularity of the pairing of Deadpool and Wolverine, fans have been left wondering if Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as Deadpool within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yet, it’s essential to understand that this was not originally intended to be a precursor for another film.

He shared that this film was created to offer a standalone viewing experience, not as an advertisement for another movie. He emphasized that it wasn’t intended for any promotional purposes. In simple terms, he finds immense pleasure in crafting such self-contained movies.

As a gamer, here’s how I might put it: “To be honest, at this very moment, I can’t say for sure if I’ll slip back into that Deadpool suit again. Fingers crossed I will, but truth be told, I’m uncertain. For now, it seems like the best course of action is to take a break and see where things lead next.”

However, whereas Reynolds may not be contemplating the future, Channing Tatum has been advocating for a standalone Gambit film following his unexpected cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine is out now in cinemas.
