Star Wars: Skeleton Crew trailer is giving big Goonies in space vibes
As a child of the ’90s, I can vividly remember the magical moments of watching The Goonies and E.T., those timeless tales that sparked my imagination and fueled my dreams of adventure. So when I saw the trailer for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, it was like Lucasfilm had reached into my heart, dusted off my childhood memories, and handed me a ticket to ride again.
As a ’90s kid, I was fortunate enough to be captivated by enduring tales of adventure and self-discovery such as The Goonies and E.T. It seems this fondness for these timeless classics is what has me eagerly anticipating Disney and Lucasfilm’s forthcoming series, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
In the distant, uncharted realms of the cosmos, I’ve stumbled upon an exhilarating voyage I didn’t realize was missing from my gaming life. After catching a glimpse of its tantalizing trailer, I find myself yearning for this interstellar adventure to download instantly onto my console.
As I hit play on the game’s thrilling trailer, a familiar tune from my childhood Amblin flicks echoes in my ears. The screen lights up, and I find myself questioning: “Isn’t there something in this world that calls out for an adrenaline rush?”
“What if we could go anywhere we want in the whole galaxy. A real adventure. No more pretend.”
Later, we observe the children strolling through the forest. Frankly, couldn’t the arrangement be any more ideal for our scene?
If Lucasfilm aimed to capture the distinctive ’80s adventure feel, they have certainly succeeded – a sensation reminiscent of the first season of Stranger Things back in 2016.
Star Wars: Stray Cosmic Quartet
In the gaming world, I recently stumbled upon an exciting new creation titled “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew“. This intriguing project is the brainchild of none other than Jon Watts, who’s best known for directing the thrilling Spider-Man: Homecoming. Working alongside him is Chris Ford, a talented screenwriter.
He shared with Entertainment Weekly last year that they aimed for the experience to be full of enjoyment and excitement. However, he acknowledged that with adventure comes risk, specifically when children are in danger, which intensifies the tension. So, they balanced this element of peril with an overall goal of creating a fun, thrilling journey.
Apart from Watts and Ford, other notable figures are involved in the series. Besides Watts, directors like Lee Isaac Chung (known for Twisters), Bryce Dallas Howard (from The Mandalorian), David Lowery (The Green Knight), Jake Schreier (Marvel’s Thunderbolts), and the Daniels (Everything Everywhere All At Once) will also contribute to the series.
My only concern with Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is the fact that it’s a Disney+ series. I felt this way about The Acolyte and its bite-sized episodes, but I feel like many of these Star Wars Disney+ series would be served better as full-fledged theatrical releases.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will premiere on December 3rd on Disney+.
