It Ends With Us’s Blake Lively praises “critical” work of intimacy coordinators

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in virtual worlds, I can tell you that the real-life cinematic journey of Blake Lively in “It Ends With Us” is as captivating and engaging as any high-definition game I’ve played. The way she navigates the complexities of her character, Lily Bloom, mirrors the intricate quest lines we encounter in our favorite video games.

In her latest film, “It Ends With Us,” Blake Lively discusses collaborating with intimacy advisors, a practice that’s currently being employed on the project. The movie is now available for viewing in theaters nationwide.

Based on the popular novel by Colleen Hoover, the narrative unfolds around Lily Bloom (Lively) who navigates a tumultuous marriage with Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni), eventually rekindling old flames with her childhood love, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar).

During a candid conversation with Digital Spy, Lively emphasized the significance of employing intimacy coordinators while filming scenes involving sexual content or other delicate subjects.

“I think it’s critical to have an intimacy coordinator,” she started.

As a gamer, I can break it down like this: “In the world of choreography, I’m the one who designs the moves for stunts and dances. Instead of saying ‘do this here, do that there’, I might say something like ‘here’s where you all sync up, and here’s where you move your bodies’. It’s all about setting the scene, whether it’s a high-flying stunt or a smooth dance routine. And when everything’s ready, I simply say ‘action’, let the performers do their thing, and then ‘cut’.”

“I think that being choreographed is critical for everyone’s safety,” Lively explained.

In conversation with Digital Spy, Lively opened up about her complex emotions leading up to the cinema release of It Ends With Us.

She expressed her feelings by saying, “I’m grateful it’s finally being released because the work has been overwhelming. However, I feel disappointed that it’s approaching because I adore Lily, the story, the world, and the people I’ve interacted with. It’s also hard for me to let go.”

She expressed her eagerness for people to watch the film, acknowledging the sense of duty, yet emphasizing that the hard work has been completed. Now, it’s more about spreading the joy of what we’ve created.

During that very same interview, Isabela Ferrer, who portrays the younger Lily Bloom in the film, expressed her emotions regarding her first time appearing on-screen.

She mentioned that since this is her debut film, there’s a significant sense of accountability for her personally, encompassing her self-confidence and faith in her acting abilities, which she will uphold.

Although I had an outstanding network of support, be it from you, Blake Lively, or my fellow actor Alex Neustaedter, it was truly a blessing to collaborate with such talented individuals. Working alongside exceptional artists not only simplifies the job but also provides a sense of security, especially when tackling sensitive themes as depicted in our movie and books.

Indeed, there was an undeniable sense of tension, yet one that felt constructive. It served as a spark, igniting a flame within me that held significance. Its presence was essential.

It Ends With Us is now out in cinemas.
