House of the Dragon topped the streaming charts in the middle of its second season
As a die-hard fan who’s been through the trials and tribulations of Game of Thrones and its prequel series, I can confidently say that House of the Dragon has taken the throne and claimed victory in the realm of television. The second season may have ended, but the echoes of “The Red Dragon and the Gold” still resonate, leaving a trail of awe-inspiring ratings in its wake.
The second installment of “House of the Dragon” has concluded, and its controversial finale drew record-breaking ratings, marking a peak for the series. Interestingly, despite this, the show was already performing well before this event. Unfortunately, Nielsen, a trusted source for ratings, is yet to disclose streaming figures from July 8-14, which covers the timeframe following the highly acclaimed episode “The Red Dragon and the Gold.” For the first instance this season, “House of the Dragon” secured the top spot with more than a billion minutes viewed. It’s important to note that this figure does not account for viewers who watched the show live on HBO.
During this timeframe, the audience for House of the Dragon held strong, despite a decrease in viewership for numerous other programs. Here are the top 10 most popular streaming choices for the week of July 8th to 14th:
- House of the Dragon (Max), 1.27 billion minutes viewers
- Bluey (Disney+), 1.08 billion
- Suits (Netflix/Peacock), 1.07 billion
- The Boys (Prime Video), 1.05 billion
- Love Island (Hulu/Netflix/Peacock), 1.03 billion
- Dexter (Netflix/Paramount+), 982 million
- Grey’s Anatomy (Hulu/Netflix), 957 million
- Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (Netflix), 917 million
- Your Honor (Netflix/Paramount+), 887 million
- Family Guy (Hulu), 850 million
It’s clear that your dragon series must be exceptional, given it outperforms Bluey, the family-favorite program that many parents tune in to give themselves a brief respite while entertaining their kids.
Over the next few weeks, more ratings are expected to roll in. In brief, House of the Dragon’s ratings have been positive, but they’ve dipped slightly compared to season 1. The extended gap between seasons might be contributing to this trend. With a two-year interval until season 3, it’s possible we’ll see a similar pattern in 2026.
