House of the Dragon season 2 home video release coming this November, with special features

As a dedicated gamer and long-time fan of the Game of Thrones universe, I find myself both elated and slightly underwhelmed by HBO’s announcement regarding the home video release of House of the Dragon Season 2. On one hand, I’m thrilled that we’re getting a physical copy of the series, as it’s becoming increasingly rare in this digital age. On the other hand, I can’t help but feel a tinge of disappointment at the lack of extra features, especially considering the rich behind-the-scenes content from the first season.

As a dedicated fan of the Game of Thrones universe, I am thrilled to share my thoughts on the upcoming release of House of the Dragon Season 2. Having eagerly waited for the second season, I can confidently say that HBO has not disappointed. The storyline, characters, and production quality have only grown more captivating with each episode.

The big news with these releases are always the special features. This new set has two:

  • Family Tree: Westerosi family ties can be confusing. This primer will help viewers keep track of the complex and far-reaching branches of House Targaryen.
  • Divided Kingdoms: Join Co-Creator/Showrunner/Executive Producer Ryan Condal and the cast and crew as they provide an overview of Season 2 and a glimpse of the war to come.

Regrettably, it seems this edition doesn’t contain any bonus scenes (deleted or otherwise), a detail that usually catches my attention. There’s no hint of episode commentaries or blooper reels either. Essentially, the package feels quite minimalistic, similar to the home video release of the first season. As reported by Billboard, there are character cards included, which could be a plus point; perhaps they’ll serve as collectibles for kids at school, exchanging Rhaenyra and Alicent cards, maybe?

If HBO aims to capture my attention with these sets, they need to enhance them slightly, but it’s great that the series is coming out in a tangible format, as it’s not always certain nowadays. Currently, you can download the digital versions of these sets, and the physical editions are up for pre-order. They will be available on November 19.

As I eagerly await the next chapter in Westeros, I can’t help but feel the thrill of anticipation as I hear whispers about the third season of “House of the Dragon.” Rumor has it that a fourth and final season will follow after that, but we won’t be seeing those episodes until 2026. In the meantime, I can hardly contain my excitement as HBO prepares to debut a brand-new “Game of Thrones” prequel series titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” set to premiere in 2025. Can’t wait to return to the world of dragons and kings!
