Chappell Roan recently complimented Miley Cyrus, saying Cyrus helped create opportunities for artists like herself. This praise came shortly after reports surfaced alleging Roan’s security team upset Jude Law’s daughter, Ada, making her cry.
Miley Cyrus, known for her song “Hot To Go,” appeared on the special celebrating the 20th anniversary of “Hannah Montana.” During the show, she talked about how much the series affected her life.
Over the years, Chappell has become known for her often shocking red carpet looks and behavior. A particularly memorable incident occurred at the 2024 MTV Awards, where she famously told a photographer to be quiet using very strong language.
In a Disney+ special, Miley Cyrus shared with someone that they paved the way for her success. She explained that because of them, she’s now able to confidently express herself, both on stage and in public appearances.
‘Oh I was gagged for that,’ Miley interrupted.
Chappell added that the criticism he faced was less intense because you had already received a lot of blame for similar issues back in 2012 and 2013. Essentially, the public had already vented their frustrations on you.
It’s wonderful to see you express yourself as an artist. This work clearly comes from the heart and shows how much you value your past and everything that has shaped you.
‘That means a lot to me,’ added Miley.
In 2024, Chappell had a heated exchange with a photographer. After the photographer yelled an obscenity at them, Chappell responded with a similarly offensive retort.
At the start of her Guts World Tour, Olivia Rodrigo publicly confronted a photographer, claiming he had been disrespectful to her at the Grammy Awards.
She told him he’d been very rude and that she deserved an apology. She insisted he needed to say he was sorry.
Miley publicly came to Chappell’s defense after revealing she’d contacted the up-and-coming artist to offer encouragement, stating, ‘I wish people wouldn’t be so hard on her.’
Starting out in this industry with smartphones and Instagram must be incredibly challenging. I didn’t grow up with those things, and I don’t really use them now either.
In late April 2025, Chappell faced criticism after being accused of shoving her assistant while on the red carpet at the Fashion Los Angeles Awards.
The singer behind “Pink Pony Club” is gaining a reputation for dramatic behavior and public feuds. This is now potentially damaging her relationship with fans, with many suggesting she should step away from music if she finds it too difficult to manage.
This week, the singer made headlines again when footballer Jorginho publicly claimed on Instagram that his stepdaughter, Ada – whose mother is Catherine Harding and father is actor Jude – was allegedly threatened by the singer’s security guard. This incident occurred after Ada saw the singer at the same hotel in Brazil.
Following significant criticism, the singer released a video stating that she wasn’t responsible for the security incident and hadn’t asked anyone to go near the child.
Okay, so I have to share what I saw today. This security guard – not my security guard, mind you, just one at the place – got into it with a mom and her kid, and I need everyone to know my side of what happened. I was there, and I need to explain it all!
I honestly didn’t notice anything unusual. I didn’t see a woman or a child, and no one approached or disturbed me. I was simply having breakfast at my hotel. It seems these individuals were also guests at the hotel. This makes it even stranger that a security guard…
I never asked the security guard to approach that mother and child. They came to me, I didn’t go to them, and I didn’t do anything to initiate the interaction. It’s unfair for security to automatically assume someone is doing something wrong when there’s no evidence or action to support that assumption.
I don’t dislike anyone who enjoys my music, and the idea that I’d dislike children is absurd. I apologize to the mother and child who were affected by someone’s incorrect assumptions.
‘If you felt uncomfortable that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.’
The apology hasn’t been well-received by Ada’s mother, Catherine, or by many people online. They’ve quickly highlighted Chappell’s past history of controversies.
Okay, so I’ve been following this situation closely, and Catherine clarified in her recent video that the person involved definitely wasn’t a standard hotel security guard. She explained he’s actually someone who looks after the artists performing there, and she’s certain he wasn’t responsible for whatever happened. Apparently, Chappell has already stated he didn’t do it and that it wasn’t his security team either, which aligns with what Catherine is saying.
I’m not sure if the man with her is her bodyguard, but he was definitely there. I don’t know if she asked him to do whatever happened, and I really hope she didn’t.
As a public figure, you also have a duty to make sure everyone working for you is representing your values and intentions.
Would he really take that action without her permission? I’m not sure. If he does, it’s a serious issue, because it would mean he’s portraying her views inaccurately and against her wishes.
Catherine agreed with Chappell, stating she hadn’t seen anything unusual. She explained that her daughter simply walked quietly past the musician’s table and nothing else occurred.
My daughter simply looked at Chappell and smiled, without reaching for her phone or doing anything else.
Catherine remembered that a security guard, who she felt was aggressive and intimidating, approached their table and harshly scolded her, accusing her of being a poor parent.
He told us not to bother people, and I tried to explain to him that she was just a young fan who was thrilled to meet an artist she admired.
She told him her daughter, whose parents are both well-known, knew what behavior was expected of someone in the public spotlight. However, she added that the security guard hadn’t paid attention to this.
I’m really hoping Chappell wasn’t involved and didn’t send anyone to do this. We truly admire her talent – we thought she was fantastic and traveled all the way to São Paulo to see her performance.
It was a birthday gift – she’d asked for tickets. It was a shame we couldn’t go to the show last night, but things don’t always go as planned.
Honestly, it just broke my heart hearing about what happened to Jorginho’s stepdaughter. He said she was absolutely devastated, just crying and crying after everything that went down. And she was SO right to call out that singer! She told him straight to his face that he owes everything to his fans – and it’s TRUE! Without us, he’d be nobody. It just makes me so mad thinking about it, and how much it affected her.
The Daily Mail have contacted Chappell Roan’s representatives for comment.
