Aaron McVeigh from Dept. Q will lead the new British thriller, Stray. The film follows Dylan, a 17-year-old who is vulnerable to a dangerous gang because he grew up without a father.
Dylan craves acceptance and falls under the influence of a local crime boss who pretends to offer him protection, but instead pulls him into a dangerous criminal world. Dylan’s misguided ideas about loyalty and power make it hard for him to escape this life and adjust to his new reality.
Variety reports that Stray is a tense British thriller taking place in a London neighborhood where fear and control are commonplace. The film is written by Darren James King and directed by David Blair, who has won two BAFTA awards.

Blair explained that what initially drew them to the story was its depiction of hardship and sadness, stemming from a lack of emotional support and unclear direction – essentially, a young person’s difficult journey to adulthood.
I was also drawn in by the intense and complicated relationships in the film – they felt deeply personal, unstable, and on the edge. It makes you wonder if anyone can really break free when love and loyalty are tied to violence.

In the film Stray, McVeigh takes on his first leading role, acting alongside Emily Carey from House of the Dragon. He described the story as a meaningful look at what it means to be human, the challenges of being a young man, and the difficulties of growing up, and shared how proud he was to be involved.
Carey explained that she was captivated by Jenny’s natural charisma. She described Stray as a deeply honest and delicate story about growing up, made even more compelling by its setting in a risky, high-pressure world, which gives the film a unique rhythm.

I couldn’t stop thinking about the script after reading it, and I’m thrilled to be working with such a talented group of people.
Recently, McVeigh played the role of Jasper Stewart in the popular Netflix crime series, Dept. Q. The show centers around Carl Morck, a highly skilled but unconventional detective who works in a neglected cold case unit.
Morck, stuck in a rundown office, reluctantly assembles a team of unusual officers to investigate the unexpected disappearance of a cold-hearted lawyer.
