Oh, my dear Amy O’Neill! The actress who stole our hearts as the adorable Amy Szalinski in Honey, I Shrunk The Kids! A girl from LA, who started her journey at the tender age of 10, riding along with her siblings to auditions after school. Her big break came when she was just 17, becoming a teen star overnight with that wildly popular movie.

A renowned actress from the 1980s, who left showbiz at its pinnacle, retains the same appearance as during her peak celebrity status.

Her significant success came from starring in the sci-fi comedy “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” a film that held the record as the highest-grossing Disney production at that time.

However, in 1994, she declared her departure from Hollywood due to feeling uneasy about the explicit nature of the characters she was asked to portray.

Instead, she continued her involvement in the entertainment industry in a unique fashion, transitioning her career to the circus where she became part of the act known as the trio “Girls on Stilts.”

Despite leading a more subdued lifestyle outside of Hollywood, she continues to post photographs on Instagram, which highlight her timeless beauty at the age of 53.

Can you guess who she is?

The retired actress you’re referring to is Amy O’Neill, known for portraying Amy Szalinski, a character who, along with her brother Nick (played by Robert Oliveri), was miniaturized in the 1980s film classic, after their father Wayne (portrayed by Rick Moranis) accidentally shrank them.

Born and bred in the bustling city of Los Angeles, I, Amy, was barely ten years old when my parents began chauffeuring my siblings and me to auditions following our school hours.

She quickly landed roles on hits like Family Ties and Night Court, and The Young And The Restless.

In 1989, at just 17, she became a teen star when her wildly popular movie Honey, I Shrunk The Kids.

Moranis starred as an eccentric inventor, spearheading the team, who developed a unique ray gun capable of altering object sizes by either expanding or shrinking them.

When he steps away from the device without supervision, his kids sometimes explore the upper room (the attic) where it’s stored, and on occasion, they unwittingly come within its line of sight.

All of them become about a quarter of an inch tall, undetectable to their parents.

In the early ’90s, Amy persisted with her acting career and even made a short comeback as her character in the follow-up film to Honey, I Shrunk The Kids titled Honey, I Blew Up The Kids.

In addition to my continuous appearances on television, I found myself rejoining the cast of The Young And The Restless and gracing popular shows like Murder, She Wrote. It was quite an experience!

In 1994, she grew tired of the types of roles she was receiving in Hollywood, so she made a decision to leave the industry entirely.

When I reached the age of 22, I found myself disliking the roles I was assigned. They involved nudity, which made me uneasy because it didn’t align with my comfort level and personal values. In a traditional sense, I tend to be modest. This is what she shared with People.

In that particular year, she unexpectedly rekindled her connection with her old buddy, Roy Johns – a circus artist whose aerial acts left her in awe.

Roy created the three-person circus act known as “Girls On Stilts,” inviting Amy to join the group. This led Amy, previously a film actress, to venture into an entirely different profession.

The group toured all over the United States and took their act as far as Asia, an experience she described as ‘fun and glamorous.’

She enthusiastically commented, “It’s delightful to see the expressions of awe on the audience’s faces. Plus, traveling with them feels just like touring with a music group.”

After some time away, she resumed her acting career by appearing in the short films “The Japanese Sandman” (released in 2008) and “The Follower” (in 2019).

2016 saw her unaccredited presence in the television series named “Baskets”, a clown-themed drama created by Louis C.K. and Zach Galifinakis.
