House of the Dragon star spends time "begging" the showrunner not to change the book

As a gamer with a deep-rooted love for both gaming and the intricate world of Westeros, I eagerly await the third season of House of the Dragon. The growth and development of characters like Jacaerys Velaryon (Jace) and Baela Targaryen have been a delight to watch, especially their unique bond as cousins and step-siblings navigating through turbulent times.

In the second season of “House of the Dragon,” characters Jacaerys Velaryon (played by Harry Collett) and Baela Targaryen (portrayed by Bethany Antonia) received more screen time compared to their appearances towards the end of the first season. These characters are not only cousins but also step-siblings, a common occurrence within the Targaryen family. While we didn’t get to see much of their romantic dynamics in the show, actors Bethany Antonia and Harry Collett offer insights into their relationship dynamic off-screen.

Collett explained to Forbes that the couples on this show tend to have a deeper understanding compared to many others. Even when they disagree, it’s done in a refined manner, as if they’re consciously avoiding conflict. It seems they are both dealing with significant challenges, so they make a concerted effort not to upset one another and instead, openly discuss their emotions, which is truly heartwarming.

Antonia notes that their strong bond originates from sharing a similar life experience – they both lost their parents at a young age. “Baela and Jacaerys were exposed to the harsh reality of death simultaneously, though it might not be widely known. Since then, they’ve formed a deep connection through this shared grief of losing their parents early on. I believe this unique experience has significantly strengthened their friendship, creating a strong foundation for everything that followed.”

In the finale of the second series, Baela and Jace are still alive, but as we know from ‘Game of Thrones’, things can shift dramatically at a moment’s notice. Without giving away too much, a major conflict is looming that may draw both characters into it, possibly happening in the early part of season 3. Will they emerge unharmed from this battle?

Collett mentioned that if a person’s time on the show finishes, they will be informed in advance. It won’t happen like during a cast reading where you discover it then and there, surrounded by others who also have to deal with their sadness. Instead, you might receive a call that he referred to as ‘The Death Call,’ which could leave you feeling shocked when your phone buzzes.

Speaking as a dedicated fan, I’ve had the privilege of diving into George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” before the series, which means Baela’s future holds some truly exciting developments for me! It seems I’m quite eager to bring those storylines to life. Here’s a little secret: it’s intriguing because this is an adaptation of a book, yet Ryan Condal has the creative liberty to shape the world of “Game of Thrones” as he sees fit. So, each day, I find myself appealing to Ryan Condal, hoping he won’t alter the original elements that make this story so captivating!

It’s likely still premature to ponder significant events, so for the time being, Collett and Antonia offer guidance for their characters during the hiatus between seasons 2 and 3. “I suggest Jacaerys should relax,” Collett advised. “He’s going through a tough time, but he needs to stop making logical choices and just take things one day at a time.”

Antonia suggests that Baela should maintain a balance in her rationality, as people’s allegiances may shift rapidly around her without always having a clear cause. Since Baela is still young, she often seeks reasons for everything, but it’s essential for her to realize that not every decision is made based on reason or logic.

The third season of House of the Dragon will likely be along sometime in 2026.
