Meta Is Closing Ready At Dawn Studios
As a long-time gamer with memories stretching back to the PlayStation 2 era, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia hearing about Meta shutting down Ready At Dawn Studios. I remember the thrill of playing Daxter and The Order: 1886, games that stood out in a sea of mediocrity with their rich storytelling, immersive worlds, and breathtaking visuals.
It’s been announced that Meta is closing down Ready At Dawn Studios, a game development company known for creating titles like Jak and Daxter and The Order: 1886.
According to a representative from Meta, reported by Android Central through Video Games Chronicle, the organization is reducing expenses to ensure the Reality Labs initiative adheres to its budget, and the Oculus Studios can have a more significant lasting effect.
Today marks a melancholic occasion for enthusiasts of The Order: 1886, as well as those who admire Ready At Dawn’s knack for creating visually stunning experiences that are hard to match by many other studios. I hold this game dear; it remains one of the most aesthetically pleasing titles I’ve encountered, nearly a decade since its release.
It’s regrettable that Ready At Dawn has focused mainly on Virtual Reality (VR) development, as their past work on conventional consoles was exceptional. Although VR is fascinating, it limits the visibility of the studio’s creations in mainstream gaming.
One of the studios final games prior to focusing on VR development was titled “Deformers“, where you assumed control over various animals, engaging in intense brawls against others. Quite entertaining!
Meta, in addition, mentioned that they had encouraged Ready At Dawn staff to apply for positions within Oculus Studios. Their aim is to hold onto as much skilled workforce as they can.
