Star Trek and Galaxy Quest are actually crossing over

As a seasoned gamer who has traversed the galaxies of countless interstellar adventures, I can confidently say that the upcoming crossover event in Star Trek Fleet Command is a dream come true for fans like myself. The convergence of two iconic franchises – Star Trek and Galaxy Quest – is a testament to the enduring power of storytelling and the boundless imagination of creators.

Star Trek is a renowned franchise that has inspired numerous imitations throughout its existence. Its influence can be seen in both movies and TV shows, shaping modern science fiction as we recognize it today. Though other efforts have genuinely tried to emulate its charm, comedic adaptations often seem the most sincere in their tribute.

As a gaming enthusiast, I initially found shows like The Orville amusing, with its apparent mimicking of popular sci-fi series. However, it soon evolved into something resembling its inspiration, and boy, did it hit the mark! Fans, including myself, are eagerly anticipating what’s next in the coming months. But let’s not forget that before The Orville, there was Galaxy Quest – a precursor of sorts to this captivating journey through the cosmos.

The movie showcased Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver, both at the pinnacle of their acting careers, portraying characters famously recognized for starring in a television series reminiscent of Star Trek from the ’80s. Allen’s character served as a tribute to William Shatner, garnering critical acclaim, and although the film underperformed at the box office in 1999, it eventually amassed a dedicated fanbase over the subsequent 25 years.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary, it seems like the galaxies of Galaxy Quest and Star Trek are merging in the latest update for Star Trek Fleet Command! This exciting crossover event is part of the 69th game update and will introduce the iconic ship from the movie, the NSEA Protector, as well as the main antagonist, Sarris, along with other enemy vessels seen in the film. I can hardly wait to explore this interstellar fusion!

Apart from the main trio – Jason Nesmith (portrayed by Tim Allen), Gwen DeMarco (played by Weaver), and Sir Alexander Dane (Alan Rickman’s character) – the movie will also include these key figures. Additionally, Laliari, one of the extraterrestrial allies who draw our actors into an authentic space battle, will be present. Although the video game characters share a resemblance with their cinematic counterparts, you can spot some subtle adjustments to prevent any complications with the talent.

The entire list of updates can be found on the official Star Trek Starfleet Command website here.
