House of the Dragon star Olivia Cooke: "Ta, see you in 2 years"

As a devoted fan who’s been through the rollercoaster of anticipation and heartbreak that comes with waiting for epic fantasy series, I must say, it’s a bittersweet feeling to know that we’re in for another two-year wait until we can immerse ourselves in the world of House of the Dragon once again. It’s like being stuck in a Westerosi version of purgatory – waiting, hoping, and rewatching old episodes to keep the flames of anticipation burning.

As an ardent fan, I must say the captivating second season of “House of the Dragon” has drawn to a close. Excitingly, there’s talk of a third season on the horizon, with a fourth following suit at some point afterward. Regrettably, we haven’t been given a definitive timeline yet. However, I’m thrilled to hear that the script is being crafted, and filming might commence as early as 2025. This means we likely won’t be able to catch new episodes until 2026.

It’s not definitive, but that appears to be our best estimate, and it aligns with Olivia Cooke’s perspective. She hinted at this on her Instagram by sharing some lighthearted photos from set, one of which she labeled, “see you in 2 years.”

Typically, a two-year gap is now common between the release of new installments for grand, visually spectacular dramas like “House of the Dragon.” Shows such as “The Rings of Power“, “The Wheel of Time“… they all have a year-long hiatus between seasons. Some shows like “Stranger Things ” may take longer. I attribute this to “Game of Thrones“; the intervals started increasing during the later seasons of that series, when earlier seasons were released at an annual pace.

As new seasons roll out at such a pace, shows face the risk of losing fans due to extended waiting periods. However, given the large-scale spectacles these series typically feature, prolonged delays seem unavoidable. It appears we’re in this situation for the near future. If possible, writing or planning seasons 3 and 4 concurrently might help reduce the wait.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that HBO has something exciting in store for us next year! It’s titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms“, a captivating spinoff from the epic saga of Game of Thrones. Unlike the upcoming series House of the Dragon, this one is set decades after, but still preceding the original show. You can expect it in 2025. Can’t wait to join you again next year!
