Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley reveals secret health battle

As a long-time fan of Daisy Ridley‘s incredible acting talents, it’s always heartening to see her vulnerability and courage shine through in interviews. Her recent revelation about living with Graves’ Disease is yet another testament to her resilience and determination.

Actress Daisy Ridley, known for roles in both “Star Wars” and “Murder on the Orient Express,” has shared her experience with Graves’ Disease.

During an interview with Women’s Health to publicize the movie “Young Woman and the Sea”, Ridley disclosed that she was diagnosed with Graves’ Disease in 2023. This condition primarily impacts the thyroid gland, and its symptoms can include weight loss, exhaustion, and various skin issues, among others.

At the age of 15, she had been earlier identified as having endometriosis and polycystic ovaries.

“It’s the first time I’ve shared that,” Ridley told the publication.

In simpler terms, it seems that many women are facing the issue of being underdiagnosed or undiagnosed, leading them to acknowledge their feelings more openly, saying things like “I don’t really feel well” rather than continually insisting “I’m fine, I’m fine.” This situation has become so commonplace that it’s almost accepted as the norm for women not to feel good.

Compared to many others, your circumstances are not as dire. Despite being able to manage them, no one should have to endure such hardships if there’s an alternative. If there’s a challenge, you don’t have to bear it silently.

In another part of the conversation, Ridley discussed her training for the production titled “Young Woman and the Sea“, which was overseen by Olympic swimmer Siobhan-Marie O’Connor.

Initially, things didn’t go well when the actor confessed that he struggled during his first attempt to swim for the role: “Initially, we were in a 20-meter pool, and I managed to swim halfway before feeling overwhelmed and panicking. I thought to myself, ‘I can’t do this.’ ‘I genuinely can’t do this.’ It was one of those embarrassing instances where I questioned my decision by thinking, ‘What on earth have I gotten myself into?'”

On the final day of shooting, Ridley tirelessly swam for as much time as she had, and upon exiting the water, O’Connor was moved to tears by her protégé.
