On Tuesday, during the team free swim segment, the Japanese Olympic swimming team synchronized their performance to music from the video game “Nier: Automata” as part of their routine. The choreography was designed to represent moves on a chessboard, culminating in a symbolic depiction of victory. As reported by Andrea Holland on NBC, the aim was to express the dynamic movement of chess pieces gracefully within the water.
In this performance, they chose the piece “A Beautiful Song” from the game, which seemed incredibly fitting.
