Phillip Schofield smiles as he posts rare picture from his ‘happy place’ proving he is finally moving on from his This Morning scandal – as his ex colleagues publicly show support

As I reflect upon the life and career of Philip Schofield, it is difficult not to feel a sense of sadness and empathy for his current predicament. Having spent decades in the limelight, entertaining millions of viewers on a daily basis, it must be devastating for him to find himself on the outside looking in.

Philip Schofield posted a radiant selfie, indicating his contentment spot, as he strives to ultimately leave behind the drama surrounding his departure from “This Morning.”

Previously prominent host of This Morning, aged 62, parted ways with ITV in May 2023 amidst significant controversy, following his confession of having an affair with a junior coworker on the program.

Approximately a year since the incident, Philip continued to maintain an optimistic outlook, as evidenced by his Instagram post on Monday which featured a beautiful photograph of him amidst a lush sunflower field.

He captioned his post: ‘What a find!!! New happy place.’

Despite having restricted comments on his social media, Philip garnered backing from his ex-colleagues. Specifically, Rochelle Humes expressed approval by liking a picture, and Alice Beer left a comment saying “Gorgeous,” making it the sole remark on the post.

Support from Rochelle and Alice grew as it seemed Philip’s return was gaining momentum, with numerous celebrities expressing their backing for the controversial host through his collection of Instagram updates.

Earlier this year, ITV experienced significant upheaval due to Philip’s confession about engaging in a relationship with a younger coworker, which was not illegal but questionable. Eventually, he resigned from ITV entirely.

Apart from his professional downfall, Philip’s relationship with co-host Holly Willoughby faced strife during the controversy, with numerous media outlets suggesting they had disagreements and misunderstandings.

During the aftermath of the scandal, Philip temporarily stepped back from public view. However, in May, he reappeared on Instagram, sharing pictures of his beloved pet dog, Alfie.

A number of stars such as Richard E Grant, Rylan Clark, and Kate Garraway have expressed their backing for Philip by engaging with his posts using ‘likes’ and comments.

His most recent post featured a snap of his dog with the caption: ‘Wet through with Uggs on.’

Although there were few responses to his post, one arrived from Richard, featuring a string of heart symbols as emojis.

On Friday, another video was shared featuring Philip’s dog playfully hiding beneath a blanket. In this clip, Alice Beer, the consumer expert on This Morning, remarked humorously, “What a joker!” referring to the dog.

Last week, Rylan and thousands more showed appreciation for Philip’s recent social media post, just as Kate Garraway did a few days earlier, on July 14th. Prior to England’s Euro 2024 final match against Spain, both of them expressed their admiration for the star online.

As someone who has spent years observing the ebb and flow of public figures’ lives, I can attest to the fact that a return to the public eye can often be a delicate process for individuals who have been away for a while. Last month, it seemed as though Phillip was tentatively taking those first steps back into the limelight, accompanied by his wife Stephanie Lowe and their two daughters at the British Grand Prix. It was a poignant reminder of the complexities that come with being in the public eye, and the importance of finding a balance between personal life and public persona.

In May he was also was pictured smiling with I’m A Celebrity star Declan Donnelly, 48, during a night out, charging rumours that a return to TV for the axed presenter is on the cards. 

They supposedly recently shared a four-hour meal at a nearby eatery with the star of ITV, and they were seen laughing uncontrollably afterwards.

Philip’s cherished daughter, Molly, has transitioned into being his publicist following her decision to leave the talent agency that previously managed Philip.

Public relations expert Mark Borkowski explains that his recent reemergence into the public spotlight follows a year spent out of sight, taking time for self-reflection and reorganization.

Describing him as exceptionally gifted, Borkowski noted: ‘He seems to be exploring his options. However, the public tends to be quite understanding.’

Philip shared with the BBC during a heartfelt interview in June that the affair had essentially ended his professional journey, and he also disclosed that the aftermath of it made him feel like contemplating suicide.

He shared that his two daughters, Molly and Ruby, had not only rescued him but also kept a watchful eye on him and refuse to leave him unattended.

In a conversation with Amol Rajan, he acknowledged the accusations of grooming a junior coworker but refuted them. Later, addressing his critics, he expressed, “Are you asking for my downfall? Because that’s essentially what you’re wishing for.”

The fallout from the scandal led to the breakdown of his friendship with Holly Willoughby.

Following Philip’s departure from the show in May, Holly Willoughby eventually decided to leave in October, reportedly due to a suspected kidnapping threat.

In March, it was announced that Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley had permanently taken over the show from the previous pair, who had been filling in on a temporary basis after various guest presenters had been sharing the daytime hosting duties.

Back in March friends of the star have said that he is ‘quite certain’ he will never work again.

One said: ‘Phillip has been very, very down recently. He doesn’t know how he is going to work again. It’s devastating for him to realise but he also knows that there is not a lot he can do about it. He doesn’t know who will take him. He knows there is no way back to ITV or the BBC.’

People who are acquainted with the celebrity report that his companions are urging him to believe he can lead a ‘meaningful life’ beyond the entertainment industry.

One said: ‘Just because he may not be on telly again doesn’t mean he can’t enjoy his life. Phil isn’t so sure though.’

The star is reportedly being considered for a position on a national radio station – a role he holds dear – as it’s rumored that major commercial broadcasters are eager to sign him up to attract new listeners away from competitors like BBC Radio 2.
