I was in the Gladiators audience - filming took so long we left before the Eliminator and you can even see the mass walkouts on the show

As a long-time admirer of the original Gladiators show from my youth, I must say that I am absolutely thrilled to hear about its successful return to our screens! The energy, excitement, and sheer entertainment value that this program brings is simply unmatched. I remember staying up late on Saturday nights just to catch a glimpse of these larger-than-life characters battling it out in the arena.

Gladiators fans have been left shocked to learn how the hit BBC show is filmed.

The demanding TV game-show made a comeback on the airwaves in January, following a 32-year hiatus since its initial debut on ITV, and a 16-year break after Sky One discontinued a previous reboot.

In my expertise, I can confidently say that the debut of this captivating show on BBC’s Saturday prime-time slot was nothing short of a triumph. The viewership numbers speak for themselves – a staggering 9.8 million viewers found themselves drawn to the premier episode!

Prior to the start of filming for season two, some spectators are curious about the methods used to capture the series on camera.

On Reddit, a viewer posed this question: ‘Does BBC’s Gladiators actually set up and dismantle the event equipment multiple times during the season between episodes/rounds (which seems incredibly time-consuming and costly), or is there some form of deception involved?’

‘And if so, how? PLEASE HELP ME FIGURE IT OUT!’

They swiftly received an explanation about the behind-the-scenes details, as a staff member who had worked on the initial series wrote: ‘I was part of the reboot team. We shoot an entire production in one day.’

As your trusted lifestyle guide, I’d like to share an interesting behind-the-scenes fact about game shows. In the production of my favorite show, The Eliminator, we always film it last. This is not because it’s the grand finale, but rather to facilitate smoother setup times for the other games filmed earlier in a slightly different order. It’s all part of the magic that goes into creating a seamless viewing experience for you!

Setting up the Eliminator typically requires approximately 40 minutes, and the rigging and set crew are working exceptionally well here.

“This project is among the most enjoyable ones I’ve been part of. The team is fantastic, the production is superb, and I’m thrilled to see it receiving such a positive response.”

An enthusiast of the series, who attended the recording sessions during the first season in Sheffield, remarked: ‘We were present at the initial taping that eventually became episode two.’

In a different sequence, the events were recorded. Upon our arrival, the Powerball game was already set up. First, they played the Powerball game, followed by the introductions of the contestants.

In the initial episode, they additionally took numerous promotional shots of a generic nature, which took an extended period to complete. They then gathered all the gladiators and prepared for the signature drone shot, featured at the start of each episode.

As a parent of a young child, I can tell you that balancing my personal and family commitments is no easy task. Last night, I had to attend an exciting event, but unfortunately, I had to leave before it reached its climax – the eliminator round – because I needed to get my five-year-old back home for bed. It’s always a challenge to strike that delicate balance between work and family life, but it’s essential for both our well-being.

‘If you watch the episode you’ll notice how many empty seats there are during the eliminator.’

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the iconic series, Gladiators, is making a comeback on BBC, this time with a star-studded twist! Following its successful reboot, it has captured the hearts of viewers and is now set to dazzle us once more. Stay tuned for updates!

The prime-time Saturday evening broadcast on BBC turned out to be a hit, attracting 9.8 million viewers during its premiere, as indicated by the 28-day viewership statistics.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but brag about this! The phenomenal viewership propelled our favorite show to become the BBC’s most triumphant entertainment launch in a staggering seven years. Every single one of its eleven enthralling episodes managed to captivate an average of 8.3 million viewers like me, proving beyond doubt that it’s a must-watch!

The first season’s success promises the revival of Gladiators, bringing us a second series as early as 2025. This new series might feature a celebrity-led edition of the game, where well-known personalities compete against members of the public.

Dan Baldwin, Executive Producer and head of Hungry Bear Media, as well as being married to television host Holly Willoughby, shared that we plan to feature a special celebrity edition on Radio 4.

As someone who grew up in the golden age of television, I can’t help but feel nostalgic for shows that have long since gone off the air. It seems like every time I turn on my TV, I find myself tuning into classic reruns or streaming old episodes online. But it’s not just a matter of reliving childhood memories; there’s something about those old shows that feels timeless and enduring. And while I understand that bringing back old shows can be a risky move, I also believe that with the right approach, it’s possible to breathe new life into classic stories and make them relevant for modern audiences. As someone who has worked in the entertainment industry for many years, I have seen firsthand how a well-executed revival or reboot can capture the imagination of fans and generate excitement around a beloved franchise. So let’s take a chance and see what we can do to bring back some of those old shows that mean so much to us all!

He stated: “The reaction to Gladiators has been nothing short of extraordinary. Each episode is filled with heart-pounding suspense, exhilarating action, and intense emotions.”

In Series 2, the program promises to keep getting better! We’ve got some fantastic surprises lined up for our audience. Are you all set and excited?!!

Kalpna Patel-Knight, who oversees entertainment at the BBC, commented: “Gladiators has certainly started the year off with a blast, and it’s wonderful to see such a huge turnout of fans for the program.”

It’s delightful to learn that families are enjoying watching this program on BBC’s Saturday night lineup. We’re eagerly anticipating more thrilling moments from the Gladiators in the future.

“It’s truly amazing to witness the renewed enthusiasm that Gladiators continues to bring every Saturday night in the United Kingdom.”

“We’re thrilled that another season is set on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, and we’re eagerly anticipating our return to collaborate once more with Hungry Bear Media and the BBC in this exciting endeavor!”

Previously, Tim Davie, the head of BBC, mentioned that a second series was among his major focuses for the year during a speech at the Royal Television Society.

He mentioned that under budget constraints, we will make it a priority to celebrate significant national events. These include the Coronation, Eurovision, the Proms and Glastonbury, as well as sporting events like the Olympics and the Euros. Additionally, shows such as Strictly Come Dancing or Gladiators, charity events like Children in Need, and even political dramas like Election Night will not be overlooked.

It was widely anticipated that another season of Gladiators might be forthcoming, as it surpassed the ratings of programs such as Dancing on Ice and The Masked Singer during January.

Back in the ’90s and early 2000s, I had the pleasure of hosting a beloved game show that graced the screens of ITV. After a brief hiatus, it made a comeback on Sky One for one exciting season in 2008, but unfortunately, it didn’t continue beyond that point.
