Helldivers 2’s newest Major Order may finally grant Anti-Tank Mines

As an old-timer Helldiver, I’ve seen my fair share of cosmic chaos and automaton carnage. From storming Automaton space to opening black holes, I’ve done it all, or so it seems. Yet, here I am, eagerly awaiting the Anti-Tank Mines that have eluded me for what feels like an eternity in this pixelated universe.

In the game “Helldivers 2,” players look forward to receiving directives known as Major Orders, which are strategic military commands sent from Super Earth. Upon receiving these orders, the gaming community unites to accomplish their objectives. Over the past few months, Super Earth’s leadership has asked us to undertake some extraordinary tasks, such as creating a black hole or attacking Automaton space to rid the galaxy of destructive robots. However, a recent Major Order stands out as it urges players to abstain from violence instead.

Arrowhead Game Studios are enticing players with the Anti-Tank Mine upgrade, a tactic that has eluded Helldivers numerous times. However, there’s a condition: players must avoid reaching a specific number of kills.

In the game, Major Orders can bestow unique items known as Strategems. These items serve tactical purposes, ranging from weapons and equipment to supplies and even calls for orbital strikes. However, the Anti-Tank Mines have yet to make an appearance in the gameplay.

Actually, the player has attempted to access Anti-Tank Mines on four occasions. Initially, they received Airburst Rocket Launchers as an alternative reward in a Major Order. These launchers were overwhelmingly popular with players due to their effectiveness against troublesome Automaton ships. Later, a second Major Order required players to dismantle a specific number of Automatons to obtain the mines; however, the community was unable to complete this task.

Afterward, participants were presented with a dilemma called Operation Trolley Problem, where they had to decide between Anti-Tank Mines and a hospital filled with seriously ill kids. The Helldivers community demonstrated their compassion by choosing to save the children, which was heartwarming but also meant they couldn’t enjoy those potent explosive devices anymore. This situation was very touching, though it came at a cost.

In the latest Major Operation, titled Operation Vengeful Cleansing, our High Command has initiated an Efficacy Assessment. Essentially, if players manage to eliminate a specific quantity of enemies collectively, it indicates that our current strategy is working well and we can forego the use of those mines. Conversely, if we fail to eradicate these enemies, resources such as mines will be distributed to Helldivers in the virtual battlefield courtesy of Super Earth. This goal is quite challenging – over 1.5 billion enemies – and we’re currently only about halfway there with less than a day remaining. If all goes well, we should receive those mines soon.

As a devoted gamer, I must admit that the mines in this game aren’t typically the go-to strategy for most players. They can be quite unpredictable when it comes to obliterating large groups of enemies, unless you manage to set an impeccable trap. However, they are remarkably consistent at causing friendly fire incidents among my teammates. If I may make a comparison, it’s almost like a poorly managed democracy – powerful, but with potential for unintended consequences. It seems that many players prefer other options when given the choice, perhaps due to this mine conundrum.

It appears Anti-Tank Mines aren’t as lethal for individual Helldivers compared to the existing in-game versions. Unlike soldiers, they are primarily designed to target larger entities and won’t detonate when infantry units pass over them. The upcoming Escalation of Freedom update, scheduled for release on August 6, introduces a new Rocket Tank enemy and a Spore Charger that hides itself in fog. Given the introduction of these new adversaries, powerful, high-explosive mines could be an ideal countermeasure. Therefore, I will express my gratitude to Super Earth High Command for their thoughtfulness should they introduce such an addition.

On August 8th, the latest Warbond for Freedom’s Flame is scheduled for release, offering fire-resistant armor and novel flamethrowers among its features. Warbonds are packages containing new weapons, cosmetic items, and armor sets that players can acquire by earning Medals in battle. As we approach our objective of reducing an unacceptable number of bot and bug casualties, we eagerly anticipate the additional tasks Super Earth may assign us.
