Michael Rainey Jr. and Chloe Bailey to headline new horror movie Goons

As a seasoned gamer with years of immersion in various genres and worlds, I find myself eagerly anticipating the upcoming horror film, “Goons.” The casting of Michael Rainey Jr. and Chloe Bailey, both talented individuals whose work I’ve followed closely, has only heightened my excitement.

In the upcoming horror movie called “Goons,” actors Michael Rainey Jr., famously known for his role in Power Book II: Ghost, and Chloe Bailey, a Grammy Award-nominated singer and actress, will take on leading roles. Learn more about this intriguing film below.

Filmmaking for the movie titled “Goons” is happening right now in New Orleans, Louisiana. This movie is being made by American director Gerard McMurray, who teamed up with Hodge K. Johnson to write the script and will also be directing it. McMurray gained recognition for co-writing the screenplay and directing the Netflix drama film “Burning Sands” as well as directing the action horror movie “The First Purge.”

Movie producer and director Tommy Oliver is set to produce and financially back the film “Goons” through his production banner, Confluential Films, under their newly established genre label, New Fear Unlocked Productions. Collaboratively, McMurray’s Buppie Productions will join forces with Confluential/New Fear Unlocked to produce this movie together.

At present, specific plot details are under wraps, but it’s rumored that the movie “Goons” will unfold against the chilling atmosphere of Louisiana’s sugarcane fields and plantations. Notably, the director, McMurray, who hails from New Orleans, refers to this film as a heartfelt tribute to his hometown.

McMurray shared with Deadline his enthusiasm about directing the movie “Goons“.

I’m beyond excited to direct a film in the horror genre. Goons is a love letter to my hometown of New Orleans, and a deeply personal story for me. Producing this film along with Confluential/New Fear Unlocked shows the power of Black storytellers with a collaborative spirit.

Oliver also had something to say about working with McMurray on making the horror flick.

I can’t wait for audiences to see what Gerard and I are cooking up with the kick-ass squad we’ve assembled. I also couldn’t be more excited to kick off New Fear Unlocked with this film from such a talented director.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but admire Omari Hardwick, who has truly captured my heart with his captivating performances. He rose to fame for his stellar portrayal of Tariq St. Patrick in the gripping crime drama series “Power” and its sequel “Power Book II: Ghost.” His talent doesn’t stop there; he also showcased his skills as Michael Burset in the comedy-drama series “Orange Is the New Black.” Additionally, his roles in films such as “LUV,” “Barbershop: The Next Cut,” “Amateur,” and “211” have further solidified his status as a versatile and talented actor.

Bailey is primarily recognized for being a member of the acclaimed singing pair Chloe X Halle alongside her sister, Halle Bailey (known as Ariel in The Little Mermaid). Her acting abilities are also noteworthy, having been featured in shows like Swarm and movies such as The Exorcism. Apart from Goons, she will next appear in Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist, an upcoming crime drama series, which is slated for release on Peacock on September 5, 2024.
